“BEWARE of REFUND POLICY!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2010

The owners of this establishment are completely inflexible. I made a reservation from New York only a week before I was to travel. I was staying elsewhere on the island, and the day before I was supposed to check in, I went to see the facility.

No where on the website does it say that you must climb straight up a mile of steps to get there! I was unable to do the climb, and so called the day before check in time to cancel. I was told that unless they could fill my space, their policy was no refund. They were intransient on this point and would not budge. CitiBank Mastercard would not assist me, although I am a platinum member, since the vendor's policy is no refund. I lost $465 for three days. DON'T BOOK WITH THESE PEOPLE!

This was our second visit to Yelapa, and our first to Casa Cabana. What a treat! My husband and I highly recommend this casa. We were expecting a palapa, but it was so much more. While the pictures on this website are beautiful, they do not do the place justice. The casa was just beautiful, both inside and out. We were pleasantly surprised at the well-equipped kitchen. Even the bed was comfortable. The mornings on the patio were delightful. We did get to see a whale and her calf, as well as a flock of parrots. We only saw one iguana on the roof of Casa Coco, but did see several of the bushy tailed raccoons and many different birds. The landscaping was fabulous and we enjoyed the special lighting touches through the inside and outside of the house. Though I must say, we were never up late. The caretakers were a big help getting us settled. The casa is remotely located, though not isolated, and it does take some strong walking legs. I would definitely recommend some good trek-type sandals. Also, this is definitely not a location for children. The locals wear flip flops, but we were not that sure-footed.

It was everything we could have wished for: the mornings sitting on the upstairs balcony having coffee were just amazing, so peaceful and lush and generally fabulous. I wanted to tell you what a nice surprise it was to find that every chair in the place was really comfortable. Might seem like an odd comment but I have a sore back from too much time at the computer so I really appreciated that.

Felipe and Yanet were just wonderful. Friendly, helpful (more on that later) and just plain lovely people. The dinners (we had two) cooked by Yanet were a real treat, and she is such a lovely young woman. Between a lot of sign language, our pathetic Spanish and her very limited English we had quite a good conversation. Felipe was so helpful, his English is better than Yanet's, so we were able to communicate a bit more freely. He was very attentive and respectful of our privacy.

For our return home we were concerned about the timing as our plane left at 12:50 on Sunday. Felipe took us in his boat to Boca then drove us to the airport and we arrived in very good time. So we did not have to worry. The weather had been a bit unpredictable, stormy, windy and quite cool for a couple of days and parts of the others so we were concerned about how the sea was for leaving. It turned out to be a calm beautiful day. We saw a whale on the way to Boca and had seen one from the balcony a couple of days before we left. Bonus!

All in all it was a lovely relaxing time. Our first day we wondered what we should do then figured it out: nothing. We swam, walked to the pueblo, ate out, visited Kuya's sister who stays there in the winter, walked up to the waterfall, wandered around up river and got to see the rural part of the place which is much nicer than the tourist areas. The food was exceptional!

Casa Coco is a delightful open-air house perched on a hill overlooking the Bahia de Banderas in Yelapa, Mexico. It is a charming, simple house but has all you need -- and the view is unbelieveable. It's rustic and far from civilization, cars, cities, consumerism -- but that's why you go to Yelapa. The caretaker, Felipe, and his wife, Yanet, made us feel at home and everyone in Yelapa is friendly. A lovely resort called Verana, that can take only 16 guests, is a short walk from the house. We had lunch there and it was great. We had a great time and miss it already.

We stayed at Coco Cabana in early January of 2010 for a couple of nights. It's a very beautiful romantic quiet place with close proximity to the village but just far enough away to have total privacy.

We really enjoyed just hanging out on the Coco's terrace, sipping coffee or tea, while observing flocks of exotic birds flying over the canopy of the jungle or taking in the vast views of the Banderas Bay. Several times we spotted the whales right from the terrace - a really magical experience.

Although, the village has plenty of restaurants where we ventured out for dinner - we really enjoyed making our own breakfast at Coco Cabana. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the pots, pans, utensils, etc. Having breakfast on the terrace was another highlight of our stay.

Our whole experience at Coco was truly fantastic. We only wished we could've stayed longer, (which we intend to do next time.)

I f you ask yourself: will I ever get there? not to worry you will and it will be worth every minute of your trip, every stone you stepped on, every nook and crany you have encountered. Waken up in the morning by the sound of exotic birds and sitting on the porch with a cup of java in your hand watching the dolphind jump around will make you feel that nothing else matters. The peace, the calm, the blue seas and the beauty of it all will surround you and will make you feel that there is no place on earth as close to nature as Yelapa is.
Everything else is just as good from the margaritas at Pollo-Bollo, the dancing at the Yacht Club, the massages at the day spa, the friendliness of the locals. There is nothing to frown about - go for it - for more details look into

I recently returned to Mexico and selected Yelapa for my vacation with the objective of relaxing, recharging and stepping out of the stresses of today's roiling financial markets. I led a group of friends to Casa Coco and Coco Cabana. The entire Coco compound is exquisite. Situated high above the Yelapa cove with unobstructed white water views of the Pacific the view, air quality and breezes were most rejuvenating. Each morning we awoke to see whales transiting north and south 100 yards off the coast. It's spectacular, and a terrific value.

As an added benefit, Casa Coco and Coco Cabana are closely situated to the Verana day spa which is first rate.

We have already booked our return.

Sincerely, bruce c, new york city.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
CASA COCO is a large renovated house fronted by a sun filled terrace stretching the whole length of the house and beyond. Based on a traditional Mexican style, the spacious living/kitchen area is open without shutters. The two large bedroom suites with Queen Size beds on the main floor, one of which with its own terrace overlooking the ocean, are separated by a small courtyard with a fountain. Upstairs, you find a cozy sitting/reading area with balconies and a large bedroom area with two single beds and balconies. We just added a private sunbathing sand terrace close to the house and yet hidden for the comfort and pleasure of sun fans. Nestled on the side of the mountain amidst luxuriant tropical vegetation teaming with wild exotic birds both houses offer panoramic vistas of the Pacific, the mountain, Puerto Vallarta in the distance and the beach. In season you may even be lucky to see the whales and dolphins play right below. Truly one of the best locations in Yelapa. CASA COCO as well as our other house on the property COCO CABANA are equipped with radio/CD/I-pod players, games and some reading material. Towels, bed sheets, soap, shampoo/conditioner and body lotions will be provided. Both houses can be shared by the same group of people but offer complete privacy to separate parties each with its own entrance walkway and terraces. Casa Coco and Coco Cabana are designed to balance luxury and openness to nature. The furniture is Mexican in style with much hand carved wood. There are no windows but mahogany louvers for comfort and privacy. ... more   less
