We braved the unseasonally chilly breeze and spent a whole day at the beach with family and friends building sandcastles, swimming and flying kites.
We had been warned that there would be long queues for the car park but were pleasantly surprised to find that there weren't any at 10.30am. The beach has plenty of space to spread out and the children could play games without disturbing others.
There is a cafe at the end of the car park which is handy for a hot drink but I would pack a picnic and stay all day.
Be warned - I still got sunburned even though the sun was only out intermittently and it was chilly at times. The sand also gets into everything as it is whipped up by the breeze - a windbreaker is a must.
