“Best pub food - bar none..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We drove an hour to meet some friends and their children for lunch - and it was worth every minute of the drive. Very cosy, great setting and very very friendly staff. The beer was good, the menu very appealing, and the food was amazing. Bavette served with chips and salad could have been middle of the road, but it was tasty and tender and beautifully cooked and served. All in all I could gladly have stayed on and had dinner too (Had I had the room)

Oh - and great for families too...

Top class - we will
be back :-)

We spent three days here over Christmas and it was magical. Beautiful old inn with amazing decorations. Log fires, cosy, friendly staff and great food, all locally sourced. They have three rooms, two inside the pub and one that is a tiny cottage attached to the pub - ideal if you have a dog as we do. Also sell lovely home made fudge, marmalade, jams and pomegranate molasses syrup, fresh eggs. A real find

Room Tip: Twin room is very spacious and lovely view overlooking the village church and the downs

I love this place! I love the decor, the location and the food. The staff were great too. I'm a vegetarian and was not over keen on the veg option on the menu so the chef made something up for me. Delish!

Looking for somewhere to bring a double buggy can be a nightmare and so can the welcome you get when you ask if there is anywhere to fit it in. But at the Horse Guards even though the buggy didn't fit through the door and it was a cozy sized pub, nothing was too much trouble.

Once we got everyone in, the waiting staff were helpful and for once looked like they enjoyed their jobs. The Pub was clean and visibly well run with an eclectic but pleasing interior and the menu looked interesting. The food was not a disappointment the shetland mussels were plump and delicious and the venison meatballs were superb. A great place for lunch and I would assume dinner. The only fault we could find was that the food took a little too long to come out which happened to worked perfectly as we were feeding our babies before the starter but they were getting twitchy by the end.

But we will be finding a good reason to be passing the Petworth area again to revisit with friends.

We arrived just too late for food..... and just as someone moving away from one of three open fires. Very quaint like walking into someones home free house so good choice of ale, and very good choice of wines.. Interesting wall hangings and one table had old church pew.. would like to return in time for food next time! Staff very friendly and the owners obviously enjoy what they do well done!

From the ginger biscuit before dinner to the marmalade at the end of breakfast, everything was excellent. These two items are made here - so we bought some to take away. Mind your head everywhere! And I'm still not sure whether it was the floor or the drink which was uneven and sloping....!

Room Tip: ask the staff - there are not many to choose from!!!

This Inn is much nicer inside than out and is a very popular eating place in the area There are only three rooms let out so it feels more personal. The staff are all friendly and helpful and the food is superb.
The only fault was the lack of parking but this would not deter us from returning.

Room Tip: We were lucky enough to get the twin room at the front as this was the only one available of the thr...
