“Service was the closest to Faulty Towers I've ever experienced!”

I attended a function with approximately 40 guests - not a huge number and certainly not enough for the manager to appear and act close to a nervous breakdown. He liberally sprinkled sirs and madams whilst pushing customers out of his way, shouting at staff in front of guests. The front desk was left unattended for extended periods, the bar staff gave incorrect change on all of my three visits to the bar.

The room rates are very high for what you get, the public areas lack ambience and there is a definite 70's feel.

The food however was good, spoilt only by air of tension created by the manager who insisted on giving loud and unnecessary instructions to the poor waiter hovering behind me.

If you are looking for a relaxed, cosy, country hotel for the weekend - keep looking!

I apologise for the fact that you felt the service was not up to your expectations on your visit to the hotel.

We do pride ourselves on our friendly and efficient service and therefore it disappoints and suprises me that this was your impression.

Regarding the ambience of the public areas, we have recently refurbished the lounge, bar and restaurant, with new carpets and curtains throughout. Chairs and sofas have also been replaced or reupholstered. Our log fire creates a cosy atmosphere for cold days, with doors onto our patio and garden to enjoy the sunshine when the Britsh weather obliges.

I am sure we will be able to improve on your impressions if we ever get the chance to welcome you back.

A quite nice hotel with rambling bedrooms and older furniture. Not brilliantly comfortable - but some charm.

Food was very good.

The manager gave us advice for walking along the South Downs which took up most of a sunny autumn day.

Ok place but we wont go back again.

This hotel is in the enviable position of having little competition in the immediate area, if it had any it wouldnt survive without major investment.
It is a throwback to the seventies and whereas I do enjoy period hotels unfortunately the seventies (at the moment) dont qualify as a great period.
While ever there are people who are prepared to put up with a low quality offering and call it "rustic" hotels like this will continue to be, they dont deserve to.
The room was £138 inc breakfast, I would expect to pay that in central london for a much better quality of accommodation, for a poor hotel in the provinces this was just far too much.
On leaving we noticed a chain motel about 6-10 miles away, whilst they are not my first choice in this case we would have been in better accommodation and had approx £90 left over !!

I am sorry that you did not like the style of our hotel.

We are a 'tudor' hotel with traditional antique furniture and tapestries. I am unsure why you would relate our style to the 'seventies.'

Continual investment is made to combine the charm of the tudor style with all the modern conveniences one would expect from a modern hotel. All our rooms are individual with their own character, and although perhaps not to your taste, they are elegantly furnished.

Very pleasant hotel for a weekend away. Rustic feel to the decoration in the rooms. Very acceptable food.
