“Top notch Olde England Pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Want to stay in a real old English Pub and be within walking distance of the delightful village of Petworth? Overlooking the walls of the Petworth House estate this sweet five bedroomed English pub is a delight to stay at for a few days. Well located to many attractions in West Sussex you couldn't find a cleaner, well decorated, old beamed ceilings and walls, yet the best of linens and towels. Nice big bathtub, well lit and very very comfortable bed. The new owners are wonderful and the English breakfast was great. Make this pub a stop on your trip around the Sputh Downs of West Sussex.

What a charming place to visit... We just tripped upon the stonemasons on a Sunday drive to Petworth..
How lucky were we to meet Mr. Baloo and the girls.. Baloo is front of house to give you a warm welcome. We sat in the garden which is lovely and we had the most wonderful Sunday lunch of pork belly and finest South Downs lamb all washed down with a perfectly chilled bottle of Côte de Provence rose. We shall return..

Nice locals pub .... And food is great. I had the burger which was stacked home made patties with onion rings and other half had the chicken asparagus pie which was also very good pub grub. Not as poncey as some other nearby pubs but a 'proper' pub.... And reasonably priced. Would stop by again if stopping thru.

We stayed here last weekend and were absolutely delighted! The room was very spacious and comfortable we even had out own library! There is a very pretty garden and we were able to eat outside, they have bbqs and gigs as well in the summer.

The food was delicious we had a yummy chicken and asparagus pie and a steak. All the meats and pies are sourced locally and you can certainly taste the difference. Breakfast was a proper full english and am still thinking about it!

The staff were all very friendly and helpful and gave us good ideas of where to visit and how to get there. The owners are lovely and told us how they took over a rather run down place and have completely turned it round. We had a very jolly time with them!

I have booked some friends in to stay as the location, accommodation and food are excellant.

The landlord and landlady Ian and Tracey have done a sensational job in the pub over the last year, with a really impressive refurbishment which is perfect for the building as well as creating a fine staff team and excellent menu. If you haven't visited recently, you must! I've visited twice in the last month, and plan to return again and again. Check out the lovely garden at the rear - a real sun trap.

As we made our way back from Bognor Regis, we stumbled across this place by chance as we were lost. We had the dog with us and as I went in to enquire about whether they accepted dogs I was greeted by a boxer called Mr B!

It was 4 pm and they were still doing Sunday roast, never heard of that before as pubs always finish at 3. I had beef and it was both succulent and juicy, a fine piece of local meat. It said on a booklet on the table that all the meat, veg and fish was sourced locally. The roast was superb and so was the chat I had with the owner and bar staff. I wish that place could be my local.

We found out that it had just been taken over so please only count the new reviews when you are looking for somewhere to eat in that region!

Sensational :)

A warm welcome from Tracy (who has only recently taken over, and is clearly working hard to get this place up to high quality, - so ignore earlier reviews). A lovely, comfy room, and the works for a full English breakfast. Any minor grumbles were quickly dealt with. We had an event to go to in Petworth, so the location was good, and better than being in the middle of the town, - only a few minutes walk away. Good for Petworth House too.
Didn't drink any beer, but there is an excellent selection. Didn't eat any food, except the breakfast (which was ample and fine), but got the impression that they take trouble over it. Would recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back may be quieter, but the best room is at the front.
