“Nothing spectacular, but very convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

Ideal for flying from south terminal and for meet and greet parking.
Pleasant dinner, but pricey for what it was!
Found that the bed was not particularly comfortable - like a trampoline as any movement had an echo effect.

Dear Louise C,

Thank you for your post and feedback.

We completed a mattress renewal programme in building one last year, and completely renewed all beds in the deluxe/executive wing of the hotel. I should then be grateful for the room number that you stayed in so we might check the bed quality?

If you could let my PA, Karen Ballam have the details I should be very grateful?

Best regards,

Guy

Booked a stay in here 3 months ago, only to arrive there at 23.00 at night to be told we have no rooms available we booked and paid 12 weeks earlier, we stood in a line waiting for over an hour to be told this then another hour waiting for the manager to come and tell us he had no explanation and there was 18 more people in the same boat, we had been traveling for 9 hours on a plane etc, its a disgrace unbelievable how anyone could let this happen, we finally got to bed at 2 in the morning at a different hotel, the most annoying thing is they did not even apologise !

Room Tip: Dont go to the HILTON GATWICK as you may not get the room you booked and paid for even monthe before...

Dear ManchesterMac,

Thank you for your post and I am extremely sorry that we were unable to accommodate you here.

This was the result of a system error that was handled by the remote IT team.

We did however have an over booking situation of four rooms. Every effort was made to accommodate you and the other guests in the best hotel in this area and I do hope that you were comfortable there.

My PA, Karen Ballam has been in contact with all four parties which were unable to stay here and I do hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back with us.

Best regards,

Guy

Good stay at the Hilton Gatwick before our flight. Buffet dinner & breakfast good value included in our rate but would not have paid advertised menu prices for those not on a package. Parking very efficient. Mix of helpfulness of FOH staff but Leroy on the front desk was brilliant and very helpful.

Stayed here in January 2014 before flying to Orlando. The hotel is a 3 minute walk from the South Terminal (which, in turn, is a 2 minute shuttle from the North Terminal), so it is very convenient regardless of which terminal you intend to use.

Rooms are clean and reasonably comfy. The only complaint was that the pillows had no real substance and even with 2, were still not particularly good. Other than that, everything else was fine. You could possibly hear some coming-and-going in the corridors at night, but if you're staying in an airport hotel, you should really expect that. The noise wouldnt be enough to wake you up, but you'd hear it if you were awake.

Theres a nice bar area in the main atrium of the hotel which is nice for kicking back and relaxing in the evening, and the buffet breakfast is typical of the Hilton chain, and by that I mean its very good. Huge selection of hot and cold food.

Dear Big_Lal,

Great post, comments and feedback and I am extremely grateful that you would take the time and trouble to pass on your thoughts!

With regard to the pillows, we are upgrading 300 rooms and new pillows are certainly within the programme.

Thank you again!

Best regards,

Guy

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

The hotel is good for being a shortish walk from the South Terminal and we used it for a park, stay and fly deal for 4 days. The price was £150 for the standard double room which included a buffet dinner in the Garden Restaurant. Self parking at the Euro Car Park was directly adjacent to the hotel and was another £34.50. There are two other parking options, but the location of both were less convenient.
The booking process was a bit of a pain. I tried to do it online but for some reason the duration of my stay didn't allow me Euro Car Park usage which is what I wanted. I decided to try telephoning reservations. After numerous menus, by which time I'd lost the will to live, I managed to speak to a human being. The Euro Car Park option was available and the deal was done! The confirming e-mail was prompt and accurate. The only confusion was there was no explanation as to the protocol for parking. However, a further e-mail resolved this.
The standard of the room was tolerable for a one night stay, but was a tatty round the edges for a quality hotel (i.e.. ripped wallpaper). The afternoon snack for two which comprised of one smoked salmon sandwich plus chips (we only wanted one to share),along with two 250ml glasses of sauvignon blanc, albeit New Zealand, came at the princely sum of £40!!
However, the buffet dinner included in the deal was very good and plenty of choice was available. As we had an early flight at 6.30am our checkout was around 4.30am, however, the account system is still going through it's overnight machinations so no bill could be printed or advised to us, although just handing in keycards was sufficient to check-out. An e-mail was promised with an itemized bill at a later stage. This did not happen by the way. I had to wait for my credit card account a few days later the puzzle out if the amount was correct that was debited. It appeared so.
The walk to the terminal is a good 5-6 minutes at a brisk pace with a lift and dog-leg route required. Not as straightforward as say the Sofitel Hotel at the north terminal. Car collection upon return was straightforward although it had been moved during my trip.

Dear Serialglobetrotter,

Thank you for your post and your very positive comments and feedback.

Euro car park is small and has limited space and we therefore only offer parking there for a limited period. They take keys when you check the car in as they may have to move it from one space to another to allow other cars out. They do not however move cars out of the car park.

The hotel is in the process of a 300 room upgrade and the room you occupied is in a further phase. The programme will be completed this summer.

Thank you again,

Best regards,

Guy

2nd stay at this hotel. For us it is by far the most convenient place to stay before an early morning flight and we have already booked to stay again before our next flight. We got a really good rate including the breakfast buffet so all in all a very happy customer!

The hotel has a direct walkway to the south terminal - so for early flights there is no need to allow for traffic / transfer delays to get to the terminal.
The hotel can issue a voucher for the adjacent long term south car park, and whilst it may be possible to walk from section A of the car park to the hotel dodging the traffic, it is easy to use the "inclusive" bus back to the terminal.
The rooms are equipped with comfortable bed and are reasonably big and quiet. The basic room does not provide bottled water, free WiFi, minibar, moisturizer in bathroom, or safe. One felt they pushed the room upgrade or Hilton Honors program too much. The TV in our room had a poor quality picture, too saturated and lacking in detail, OK for checking the news or watching quiz show but not for general entertainment.
The garden room restaurant provided a reasonable buffet meal, the drinks being expensive and the decor a bit dull and depressing.
Porter service from the hotel drop off point before using long term car park, and reception service were outstanding.
