“Great place after a walk on a blustery day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

We were very ready for our freshly made fish and chips after a walk along the beach on a blustery day. They were excellent! This is a no frills cafe but very organised. Worth a visit

“Best view in Littlehampton!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

What a great place to eat lunch on a sunny day - not only an excellent choice of beach type food with really good fish and chips, but also an excellent mixed salad with 'proper' dressing.... so not your average fish and chip shop. A real slice of UK seaside magic right on the mouth of the Arun, with a lovely sunny terrace and an amazing view - the perfect stopping place after a walk along the dunes or a swim on the beautiful West Beach.

“Nice, but limited cafe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

This appeared to be the only place to get food on the West Beach at Littlehampton, and while something is better than nothing, the menu is pretty limited. It's really only a fish and chip shop. We visited mid-afternoon, and the local cakes, toasted sandwiches, toasted fruit bread the website promised were simply pre-packaged cookies and flapjacks. However, the service was good, and it's a nice building.

“Just not what you would expect!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

Once you wind your way down to West Beach and find parking (good luck in summer) you will find the cafe with its' fully opening front !...The whole of the fron t is glass and simply opens out! Looks quite impressive. The food is that of a cafe but is very well prepared and always fresh and hot. There is a surprisingly comprehensive list on the menu too with a good selection of drinks. There is limited seating inside but a good spread of tables outside looking over Littlehampton Harbour mouth.

“East is best and West is different - but worth a look”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

Littlehampton is a town worth visiting and not least for the excellent meals you get at the East Beach Café, with its architect-designed rusty shell right on the promenade. Across the Arun river they have opened a small offshoot, the West Beach Café, a fish and chip shop in a box designed by Asif Khan, a young architect, so that the blue front wall can be opened up when the weather is good enough. The seating is basic wooden benches. The menu is also basic. At the counter you can order Items such as battered fish, battered squid; breaded scampi which sell at £6-£7; battered sausage £1.50; chips £2-£3. There was no fresh fish when we went there and the food tasted OK but it was greasy. It was hard to believe that this was an offshoot of its attractive sister to the East.

The good news is that the location beside the river mouth is pleasant, by a car park but next to attractive sand dunes and an old fort. When the tide goes out there’s a big beach. They have recently opened a ferry across the river to town (the service runs approximately every 30 minutes and costs £1 each way) and if you are hungry after a walk along one of the last stretches of undeveloped Sussex shoreline, this will satisfy your appetite. Good food it isn’t but maybe it doesn’t intend to be (though they could improve the quality). Certainly worth a look if you are passing by.
