“Great value for money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

Great youth hostel in a good location. Ample lounge and kitchen space, perfect for a group of about 30. Beds (most bunk beds) are very comfortable and toilets work well.

Had read reviews about lack of parking, but it was free to park after 6pm and we were often out in the daytime, so not major issue. The family room had loads of space, double bed, set of bunks, chair and plenty of space for travel cot. Agree with other reviews that the yha warden was v disinterested in being there, so do your research the local area before going. Admittedly we went out of 'main season' so parking and the fact the kitchen was small were not major issues. Felt the location (overlooking harbour and within walking dsitance of fab beach for kids) and the fact it was on one level was perfect for us as a family and out weighed the 'minor' negatives. The windows had security chains on them which restrticted there opening was peace of mind for us having 2 curious young boys so felt safe knowing they wouldn't fall out! (it all on the 1st floor) overall postive experience and we would go back and fantastic value for money!

Room Tip: Request a family room with a double bed and a ensuite!

YHA lists parking available, there is only expensive pay and display (or 3 spaces on the street right outside occupied by 3 cars that didn't move during our entire stay).
4 bed room with me and 3 kids was unbearably hot in pretty mild summer weather (~20c in the day) not helped by a security chain on the window that stopped you opening it more than a crack
Kitchen way too small for a 32 bed self catering hostel, no where to store general foodstuff and only 2 standard fridges and 2 standard hobs in a cramped space.
On the plus side it is in a great location, a short (and mostly traffic free) walk to beach, supermarket 2 min walk away.

We normally try and stay in Youth Hostels as not only are they good value & have good accommodation but you get the chance to chat with other members. This hostel turned us off on all accounts. This is quite new building........... but has failed in it's design. The cleaning wasn't up to scratch - the shower/toilet cubical had mould in the joints of the plastic panels. The reception person clearly didn't want to be there. The kitchen was very small, as was the dining/lounge area and the room.
