After being assigned to do some work in the UK, I chose a small English Seaside town to make my headquarters. Lancing, is a lovely little community that is reasonably priced. The New Sussex is minutes from the train which links you to countless attractions.
Patrick Lott, the Proprietor of the establishment takes great pride and care in his Hotel/Pub and his clientele. I was traveling alone and never for one moment felt that way. There was a true sense of community and respect during my visit. I was able to enjoy a glass of wine out front and watch the world drive by over the beautiful backdrop of the sea. I could be more private and walk through to the private back garden, where I found picnic tables, play area, bar-b-q kitchen (tended by Chef Boris the Brilliant) and take my shoes off and bask in the glory of an unusually sunny week.
The rooms are pristine and all needs are met. From slippers, to fresh, fluffy white towels. Just open your windows and let that sea air wash over you. It will leave you feeling refreshed and clear headed. Then head downstairs for a bountiful English Breakfast to start your day.
Mr. Lott takes the time to provide his patrons with a blend of entertainment weekly. I was surprised to experience, pop music from local talent, the blue's and a tap dancer. Or you can just hunker down in the pub and play trivia with the colourful people around you and order from the kitchen. Bill is always around to make sure your belly is full as he knows his way around a sparkling kitchen.
Boris the chef is an oral experience you MUST have. His food is excellent and the menu has a variety that will cater to all tastes. However, one night, he had brought in some fresh raspberries... and to my surprise showed up at my table with a raspberry torte, custard and cream. TO DIE FOR!!!! He is truly an artist.
The staff are most respectful and are always there to help. From Dana in administration, to Nathan tending bar or Toni-marie running about quietly making sure things are "just so", I will assure you, you will want for nothing.
Considering the age of the building, they have updated all of it without compromising the Lancing charm. I would suggest that if you have difficulty with stairs, this might not be the place for you to rest your weary head. But, if you have no issues with going up a flight or two, it is well worth the walk.
Thank you to all of the staff at The New Sussex Hotel, Lancing, UK and I do hope something brings me back to you.
