“Catching up with Roger”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

We went for lunch at the Eight Bells today and had an excellent meal. All the food was well presented and tasted excellent, as was the service.

“Food great --- time to get it another story!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Booked via the web a table for four... Tuesday night after Bank Holiday Monday. Had to send a second email before confirmation received. Upon arrival however, no table had been reserved for us, but as only four bookings had been written in the diary, we were seated. We requested a wine list - but they didnt have one, instead the waitress tried to recall from memory what they had. Drinks delivered quickly - and then we were left... and left.. and left.... two more tables had filled up by this point. I called the waitress over to make our orders - one starter, and four mains. The starter arrived within ten minutes... a bowl of tasty soup. It was now getting on for 7.30, and we had been there for an hour and a half for 4 drinks and a bowl of soup. The restaurant was now almost full. Our main courses finally arrived around 8.00... so 2 hours into our service. The food however was superb... Against our better judgement, we ordered 3 desserts, as the restaurant had emptied, and those remaining all had their meals, our thinking being that this would be pretty quick arriving. However... a further 20 minutes elapsed before our 3 desserts arrived. The crumbles were okay - but just a drip of custard, and a scoop of ice cream insufficient with the amount of crumble. By the time the bill was settled, and we headed out for our long journey home, it was almost 9.00. So I would say in summary, great food, but be prepared to loose a few hours of your life whilst waiting for it.

“Great Pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

Had a lovely meal here, food was excellent, surroundings relaxing and service very good. It was so good we went back for a Sunday lunchtime jazz session; sadly the band didn't turn up but the beer made up for it! Very friendly staff and would recommend it without hesitation.

“found a handy local for good food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

found this pub after searching tripadvisor as was tired of the overpriced Sportsman at Goddards Green!
As it happend i once knew a previous landlord back in the 90's and boy has it changed and for the better. A carpark is at the back of the premises past the large partly covered decking area. There is ample seating outside and a modern look in the indoor restaurant area.Staff are friendly and quick at service and nothing seems to be a problem for them.
I opted for the fresh baguette with sausage and onion and the bread was soft and fresh and an ample portion along with side salad and tortillas. My wife went for the terrine ploughmans and i wish i had as the portion was a proper ploughmans and good value.
Most weekends they seem to advertise local bands playing and we will give this a try oneday but as my daughters school is down the road this pub is a handy pitstop!
