“comfortable, friendly and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

We stayed at the hickstead for 1 night as we were attending a nearby family wedding. Check in was from 3pm but the wedding was at 2.30pm. I telephoned the day before to see if it was possible to check in earlier at 1.30ish and was told that it was possible but not definite. After an argument with satnav (ok - operator error) we actually arrived even earlier at 12.45. The lady on reception was very helpful and although our room wasn't ready, she changed us into another room and we checked in.
The room was comfortable and clean. Certainly way better than a travelodge (which I had read on a previous review), with plenty of room and the normal facilities.
When we returned from our reception at Old Pangdean Barns, there was a wedding reception or party going on in the function room. Of course this is expected at a hotel and we found it of no trouble to us. The bar was still open to all guests.
After a good nights sleep the breakfast was excellent, with a choice of cereals, croissants, cooked, tea, coffee, juices, etc....
Comfortable, friendly & good value.

Following your recent stay to attend a local Wedding , I am delighted to read that you were looked after and enjoyed all the facilities that were on offer whilst you were in the hotel.

I am also delighted to read that you were not disturbed by our Wedding guests and that you had a good breakfast before heading home .

Do come back and see us on a more leisurely in the future

Kind Regards

My husband received a voucher for his birthday, for afternoon tea for two. Excellent food - sandwiches (3 types), chocolate gateaux, chocolate eclairs, strawberry & cream meringues, homemade shortbread biscuits, warm scones with plenty of cream & jam. (I am sure that everything was home-made). Plenty of tea & coffee, with hot water to top-up. We nearly managed to eat everything (but not quite!). Good service - will definately go again!

Day: October 8th 2012
Almost impressive country style drive leading to ample parking. Boarded by a tired 70's style motel with a pleasant older property attached. On entering mediocre reception area was pleased to be greeted by welcoming staff. Room was spacious, clean and tidy but tired. Restaurant staff were excellent surroundings a little characterless and un inspiring however the food was good. Overall a reasonable stay but wouldn't rush back.

Thank you for your comments following your recent stay .
I am glad that the staff friendliness helped you enjoy your stay along with the good quality food and was just disappointed that we did not meet your expectations in terms of the physical hotel facilities .

I hope nonetheless you will consider reurning to experience our friendly relaxed hospitality

We stayed in this hotel for one night, the hotel is clean and the surroundings are quite adequate, the room was clean and well fitted, the beds were very comfortable, the room overlooked an overflow carpark to the back of the hotel which was not a problem, because I did not spend my stay looking out the window, nor did I ask for a room with a view.
The bar was very small which I liked, also the barman was very good and very humourous.
I had dinner there and I have to say it was excellent, the staff were very nice and also very helpfull, considering the price I thought it was excellent value for money, no it,s not the Ritz Carlton, but is a very nice reasonable priced hotel in a nice peacefull location, I would have no hesitation in staying there again should the need arise.

I booked the hotels romantic package for me and my girlfriend, which included champagne, roses, 3 course meal, etc. On arrival the staff were very friendly and the champagne, roses and chocolates were in our room like planned. The rooms were good and we had everything we needed.
The meal in the evening was was very nice, there was a good variety of food too. The steak was very nice.

Warm welcome, very friendly & helpful staff. Food was excellent. Good value for money with the 'Discover Sussex' package. Comfortable room but bathroom could do with a bit of a facelift (didn't like the plastic clingy shower curtain). Nice quiet location. Would definitely stay again.

Booked an Autumn Deal with Classic Lodges direct. Deal included a bottle of wine and dinner/bed and breakfast. Location is about 25 mins outside of Brighton. We had a lovely stay and the food was very nice.
