Firstly let me say The Bear as a pub is a lovely place with an open fire and entertainment on the night we were there. However!! as a bed and breakfast I do not know how these people can get away with charging £80 for a night, we had 2 rooms a twin and a double. The rooms looked nice on the surface but again not for £80 which is where your heart sinks as you enter the rooms which are essentially bedrooms of a large house and feel like that to. The TV was on the side wall up against the window and the bed was on the front wall, first problem, we had a view of the roof, the UHT cream had gone off, the toilet roll holder fell off, the shower was so loud, ancient, mouldy and full of lime scale it should have belonged in a hostel, the lock for the bathroom is on the outside of the door??, breakfast is in a short window of between 9 and 9.30, I now wish I had stayed in bed as the order was wrong, the orange juice was clearly from a dry packet and the breakfast was not good, oh! and the pub was being cleaned while we were trying to eat our breakfast. The twin rooms toilet (in the cupboard) was so small that when you bend down slightly to clean your teeth the door opens, the mattresses were hard and small, there was a dodgy looking extension lead coming from the ceiling. I could go on but i think you get the message. If i had paid £40 for the room i would not feel the need to complain, but there is nothing that reflects the charge. Do not stay here, unless you can afford to waste money.
