Stayed here with my wife for a 2 night trip to Birmingham having been seduced by the professional photos of the hotel. What a shock was in store! So on its plus side the room was clean, warm and the buffet breakfast excellent, as you would expect from a large chain. But thats about it...
On the negatives, where do we begin.
Its VERY corporate, so if you're thinking of a nice relaxed time, you'll probably be sitting next to a bus load of builders or Johnny the Rep from head office on his mobile constantly. While we were there, it was seriously like a meeting at Carphone Warehouse with the number of phones and appointments being made. Also, large companies take note... I know you get corporate rates at these sorts of hotels but spare a thought for normal people when you bus in a load of builders.
The restaurant prices are an absolute joke. I've paid less at a top London restaurant. £30 for a rib eye steak or £16 for a grilled chicken that looks like it came off a conveyor belt... we declined that treat! And everything is an upgrade here! £24 pppn gets you hot chocolate , slippers and not a lot else, the TV looked like it was from the 80's. I didnt know they even made CRT tube TV's these days.
If youre looking for a view, you either get the car park and a panorama of a depressed Midland commercial wasteland, or a view of a canal tributary overlooking a vastly unoccupied industrial estate and the new Inland Revenue headquarters... nice! This is depression hit Britain at its best, lots of unoccupied commercial property and empty canal side restaurants.
The area itself has NOTHING to offer... Its a run down outskirt of Birmingham with yet another out of town shopping centre that looks like every other town centre you've seen before. The local pub is called the "Dog and Lampost" (Not that you would want to venture inside), need I say anymore. Navigating to the major road networks is also tedious as this place is seriously dumped in the middle of nowhere in a sprawling, run down industrial estate. The photographer needs a medal for pumping this place up to be so much more than it is in reality.
All in all, VERY disappointed, VERY disillusioned and would never come back here. Be warned, its not all its cracked up to be... and some...
Try and get a canal side view or you're looking over the car park and a Midlands industrial wast...
