You have my original draft.
I can only repeat what I have already said. However, the proprietor has contacted me and agreed to refund the cost of my daughters meal and offered a free meal to my family as compensation.
£90 for lunch. A fine champagne served in a comfortable lounge, but not large enough to accommodate the number of guest, causing some to move into the dining area. Asked for vegetarian options. was told that I could have what I wanted. I requested a prawn starter followed by a nut roast. The starter apeared as a small amount of SHRIMPS, covered in maionnaise with some leaves on the side. The nut roast appeared as a minimal amount of roast vegetables and some loose nuts. No roast potatoes and no gravy. A complaint to the dining room Supervisor brought the response, Never mind, you will have plenty of flavour. A further complaint to the project manager brought the response, Well, when I gave the request to the chef he said that he did not know what a nut roast was. It was obvious that neither of them had taken the trouble to to find out. A quandry: Walk out, and spoil the rest of the day, or grin and bear it?
The traditional roast faired not much better. The turkey served to me was an uninterseting slice of thigh. The sprouts were not cooked. Not al dente, just not cooked, and barely warm. There were many murmerings regarding the sprouts, and many found their way back to the kitchen. The cheese course was made up of reasonable blue cheese accompanied by a very tired looking type of brie, just piled on a plate with neither having achieved an acceptable temperature, and with a very few biscuits. The waiting staff were very attentive and it must be said that an attempt had been made at presentation.
A complaint to the owner elicited an apology and a promise to get in touch in the following week and arrange a refund. As of 9th January he has not made contact.
