“Nice food, great value, good beer, friendly staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012 via mobile

Dropped in here for a meal on the way to Stratford. Great value, 2 main meals for eleven quid. Plus great beer, good to see real Stella Artois rather that Four rubbish. Going to the RSC next week will definitely stop here rather than struggle to get something decent near the theatre.

“Excellent for Families, Excellent Value and Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

This pub is within walking distance so we thought we would give it a try after it changed hands from numerous years of trying to be a family gastro pub.

We walked down to the pub, it is good as it has a large garden area at at the back with children's playground with lots of seating.

Inside it has been refurbished. It is busy - but not too busy

It caters very much for families.

It was nice to be able to go for meal with young children and sit in the restaurant without worrrying that the children are talking too loudly - as all the people in there had families - it felt lilke a traditional pub with decent, well priced food and a family room. There are plenty of areas for couples to sit and eat and drink as well as families.

I would definitely recommend it.

“Oh Dear!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Oh my goodness! This pub is newly opened in my village and we thought it would be good to support it. First and last tme I'm afraid. The food, well where do I start? A toasty passes itself off as a Panini. The childs pasta was cold, oh and the cheese toasty had a hard bit of tuna in it too. Good God what an awful place, inside was so cold we opted to sit in what little sun there was instead outside. There were 5 meals in total, there were bought out one by one over 20 minutes, then, "oh, you want cutlery?" The two young ladies in charge were pleasent enough but obviously lacked any catering experience. It's rather difficult to eat a meal with a full size dinner knife and a dessert fork! Should have known really what to expect as the place was empty on a Saturday lunchtime, we were the only people there. Sorry, won't be going there again, lots of work and training desperately needed, doubt you'll still be in business this time next year so make the most of it

I apologise that you felt your visit to the Golden Cross was so bad, I just wish you had bought it to my attention on the day. As per our other Golden Cross Trip advisor site, you can see it is not indicative of the service and standards that we are achieving.
