“Fabulous !!!!!!!”

I stayed here for 2 nights as part of Coloured Rocks Experience, which was a mini course for gem lovers. The managers Nigel and Maria were very freindly and made me feel relaxed as soon as I arrived. I stayed in the single room which was small but oh so cosy; it also had a lovely bathroom of decent size + TV & Wi-Fi which was free. Breakfast was excellent and had the right portions so as not to feel too stuffed too early. The meals both pub menu and restaurant were well thought out and different, on arrival I had lunch of Devonshire Crab Salad with cucumber jelly - amazing. The restaurant has a calm and peaceful atmosphere and you are not rushed, the food was exquisite
Nigel and Maria have only been managers for about 3 months and their love and enthusiasm for the Swan is everywhere.
I so love this Hotelso much that I am returning in July with my husband for 5 nights.

Came upon this restaurant after going to 3 previous restaurants to be told there would be an hours wait at each one. Welcomed and immediately given a table. Really liked the fact we could choose from bar menu as well as restaurant menu. Beautifully decorated restaurant serving gastro pub food. Hubby wasn't too keen on thai curry but my ham hock terrine, duck egg and chips was fantastic as was my son's chicken nuggets beans and mash. The chicken nuggets were actually very tasty chicken goujons with barely a trace of batter. All followed by delicious henley ice cream. The highlight for my son was the after dinner freddo served with the after eights! Would definitely return

My wife and I had a fabulous relaxing wedding anniversary treat with an overnight stay at this historic hotel. Staying in the Johnson suite we had ample room to relax upon our arrival, before preparing for a meal in their tastefully modernised contempoary restraurant. This was
in stark contrast to the suite, with it's bowed walls, beamed ceiling, and slanting floor.
The meal was excellent value, high quality and with excellent presentation. Proportions are not large but the quality and taste sensations were remarkable. Those who appreciate volume over quality should perhaps consider the chip shop down the road.
The staff were all welcoming and friendly, and service for food and drinks was quick and
efficient. The rooms have just undergone a refurbishment programme, the adjoining corridors should be completed over the next week or so. The whole establishment appears
to be a labour of love for the owners, and they have sympathetically restored many aspects
of the building with a contempary modern feel to give you the convenience of todays expected standards. This is an ideal stop off for touring couples, or for those romantics looking to celebrate that special occassion.

We had arranged to meet a relative for a drink in the Swan so decided to eat there too, after a long day's walk. It is a pleasant place with an interesting history - and the very friendly barmaid did say people were often surprised how small the Vegetarian Gnocchi were. To be fair, I think she would have disuaded us from choosing this dish, had there been any other vegetarian main dish on offer. She did helpfully suggest having a starter alongside, and that was fine, but the Gnocchi, at twice the price, hardly made two mouthfuls - 3 gnocchi no larger than gobstoppers on a plate decorated with a few slivers of beetroot & tiny pieces of other salads. We could hardly believe our eyes! Eventually the waitress brought us a complimentary cheeseboard, Clearly this audaciously miniscule offering was hardly her fault. If you are a vegetarian, our advice is DON'T EAT AT THE SWAN unless and until they change the menu.

Room Tip: We did not stay at the Swan.

We went for a family Sunday lunch and after a friendly welcome it went down hill. Firstly one of the drinks was missing from our order, not a big problem and was soon sorted. Our starters were lovely but a long time coming, there were only 3 occupied tables so not sure about the wait. When, after another wait, the mains came out we had ordered 2 roast beef and 1 bangers and mash but 1 beef came with 2 sausage. When we said that wasn't ours and maybe for the other table we were told "it's for table 28 and you are 28". We said it wasn't our order and she took the plate back to the kitchen only to come back seconds later and say "perhaps you ordered bangers, sausage and bangers are the same". How insulting! We said again we had definatley ordered 2 beef. One of our party then had to wait while we ate our meals until hers was served. We had to ask for veg with the beef as that wasn't brought to the table with the meal. Again the food was very good although one of us had the veg tart and the salad was little more than a few leaves. Dessert only added insult to injury as one of the speciality ice creams ordered wasn't available and then when it arrived another flavour had been substituted with vanilla. The treacle tart ordered by 2 of us was a sliver, one suspects a slice had been shared between 2, and the macaroon with the chocolate mousse was not coffee flavoured but was stale. After the reaction over the main course we didn't bother to say anything about the sweets but didn't leave a tip. I have never not tipped before.

I took a party of 20 to the White Swan for lunch on a Saturday. The meals had been pre-ordered. The efficiency and friendliness with which the food was served was second to none. The food was ready as we arrived, was served within minutes and the food itself was really good with a wide choice in the menu of both main meals and snacks. I take a party of this size to a pub for lunch every month, we have had varying standards if service but this place is beyond comparison. I would recommend it to anyone and will certainly go there again.

Only had experience of the restaurant as part of a large group. The smoked salmon, chicken and creme brulee were all very good. The food was hot and well cooked even though they were coping with a large number of (pre-ordered) meals.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the surroundings had attractive character.
