I stayed here for 1 night whilst away for work as the other hotels I usually stay at, in nearby Daventry, were fully booked. It looked like a good deal at a nice country house hotel from the website... I was very much mistaken. If you are considering staying, look elsewhere!
The grounds look lovely, the public areas are contemporary and appear well cared for, so the poor quality of the rooms are a complete contrast and disappointing.
The first room I was given was so small. There was a small double bed with just enough room to walk around it, a small TV, a kettle on a small sideboard and a trouser press. The bathroom door didn't shut. I asked reception if they had any bigger rooms and was sent to a different annex.
The pathway leading up to this annex was very dark, with shrubs on either side, an uneven path and a battered front door. This room was bigger than the first with twin beds and a long desk along one wall, better for working at. This room had been refurbished more recently than the first one I was offered (more like the photos on the website) but it still looked tired. The plug socket had a chunk of plastic missing and I could see the exposed wires inside. The kettle had bits of metal in the bottom. I asked for a replacement kettle which had the same problem so gave up. The TV was so small in the far corner of the room that I couldn't even see it to watch it. There was a cold draft the huge radiator didn't work. Although it wasn't a cold time of year, I slept with a jumper on!
I've stayed at The Days Inn at the motorway services before for less money than I paid to stay here and I think it was much better value. Disappointing as this could be a really nice place if the rooms were of a more consistent, higher standard and the annex buildings were better presented.
