“Good food, pleasant ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Stayed for one night in room 6. This is facing the road so it was noisy during the night as it was a hot night and we needed the window open to let in some air. Otherwise the stay was very pleasant. The room was spacious and well appointed. The bathroom was large and clean. The staff were all pleasant and very helpful. Would recommend a stay here but ask for a room that is not at the front of the hotel.

Room Tip: Anywhere but the front of the hotel

We spent a few hours here over Sunday lunch with some very good friends. Extensive menu and good roast dinner. Our bedroom was large, comfortable and clean, although rather lacking in character, as the walls are just plain with no pictures. Breakfast was good and the staff were all very friendly. Definitely one to be repeated.

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard room as the one we had on the road side had a lot of traffic noise early on Mond...

Despite living in Rugby for more than five years, before this summer, my husband and I had only eaten here once before, but I've been here twice in quick succession recently and been quite impressed on both occasions.
it's a pretty big pub, with rooms above, and a nice courtyard for the summer.
The food menu is extensive - I've had some light dishes, including a fab pork belly salad, while people I've been with have tried the James Martin pies. Both mine were great, and my friend's beef pie was excellent apparently, but my husband wasn't as impressed with his. Maybe it's down to expectations, or possibly just a slight variation from day to day.
But the sharing platter starter was great, as was dessert (which I tried both times!)
The service is good - you order at the bar, but then it's table service including drinks, and was fairly swift.
It's not gourmet food, but it's good grub at a very good price. Would recommend.

Friendly staff booked us into our room, Room 7 which is clearly in the older part of the hotel. It was well furnished, a quaintly uneven floor and had a reasonably sized bathroom. The shower was a little on the snug side but the shower power was very good. We stayed two nights and found that the second set of towels had not been replaced for our second night's stay. Fortunately we noticed this the evening before they were needed and, following a telephone call to reception, they were promptly.provided The hospitality tray, beakers in bathroom and spare toilet roll were not replaced however and the bathroom bin was not emptied. As there were a few lapses in housekeeping I left a list for the manager in charge, with reception, on leaving. The pillows were not particularly comfortable. We ate in the main dining room on the Friday evening. We had booked but as it was a very warm weekend I think many people had not decided to eat indoors. The restaurant was reasonable well ventilated however. Having stayed here before we know it can get very busy in the restaurant on Fridays and Saturdays, so its always better to book. The food was well cooked and there was a reasonable variety of choice on the "pub-type" menu, including some good fish specials. Continental breakfast was good but beware of the toaster. It doesn't give Dualit a good name! Even though we had come across this toaster before it was all too easy to burn your toast on one side and have it barely pale golden on the other. This toaster should be replaced as a priority as it must be a fire risk. We will stay again because it is convenient for us but we hope that the housekeeping improves and that the toaster is replaced immediately.

Room Tip: Family rooms available at apparently no extra cost for a couple, are very spacious. e,g Room 1

I used to frequent this hotel many years ago, when it was independently managed. Now part of a national chain, the hotel has been extended and caters for local diners and pub trade as well as being a hotel. On this occasion I had a midweek lunch time meeting and though busy, we were served food in a reasonable time. Typical of the national chains, the orders were placed (and paid for) at the bar and you receive a numbered wooden spoon to place in a tankard on your table. My colleague and I chose from a lunchtime menu - 2 courses for £8.50 - which appeared to be good value. The food was average, my Chicken dish was described as "Chicken Breast in a hard cheese crumb". It was very dry and crispy and did not taste much of cheese! However, I washed it down with a beer and it soon disappeared from the plate.
The menu was very varied and other dishes did look more appetizing, though were not available on the £8:50 menu.
There is ample car parking and Dunchurch is a very appealing village with lots of thatched roofs about. Probably a good place for a family Sunday lunch.

Despite arriving early we were quickly booked in and shown to our room, room 6, which was very spacious as was the tiled on suite which included an excellent shower. Fresh towels every day but unfortunately the housekeeping was not up to standard i.e. the hospitality tray was not replenished, beakers in the bathroom were not replaced and the tissue box was empty on arrival and remained the same throughout our stay. The evening meals were taken in the restaurant and proved to be of good quality and value. Friday and Saturday evenings advisable to book a table. The Continental breakfast was sufficient. As previous guests have mentioned the toaster was entirely inadequate toasting only one side of the bread. Apparently staff have requested a new toaster but so far without success. Staff helpful and friendly and we would stay here again when in the area.

I stay here sometimes asour offices are close by. As a brand, Innkeepers Lodge do a good job of giving you the right things in the right way. In other words, if you stay in one of their pubs you know what you will get. Reasonably good food, good beer and very comfortable rooms. The Dun Cow is no exception as a pub and is always busy. The staff try and make residents feel welcome although as an almost regular, they could acknowledge that you have been a few times before. To be honest though, the breakfast does leave a little to be desired with tired pastries and limited choices on the continental options. That said, I have not experienced the cooked breakfast so need to reserve judgement. Great location in Dunchurch and well worth staying.

Room Tip: All rooms are good but some face the main road cross roads
