“Good hotel and food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

We had an overnight stay here and we were very impressed with the hotel and food. However, there was a wedding on and noise did seem to travel around the hotel quite a lot.
We ate in the restaurant and the meal was fantastic.

Room Tip: Ask if they have a wedding on when you book.

Attended my nieces wedding here recently and on arrival it looked great. Lovely looking place and the grounds were fantastic. Waited some time to book in then told our room was not yet ready. Not a problem, we went to the bar as we would be told when it was ready. The price of drinks was a shock. Also some of the staff seemed to treat guests other than the wedding party that was already there as a bit of a pain. I checked on our room and was told it was still not ready, however after checking our room myself in the annex it was ready and had been for some time.
The room was ok, but overpriced in my opinion, it was tidy and clean but certainly not worth the money they were charging. One on the light switches was broken with no cover on it ! The room was extremely warm and it was very unconfortable when trying to get to sleep. The location of the room was next to a car park and it was very very noisy.

The staff member in the dining room was excellent, which has already been commented on by previous guests.

The breakfast on wedding day was very good, good selection. However breakfast the day after the wedding was different. We were put in a different room, the food was on a hot plate, the selection was not as good and the service was not up to scratch. Again it seemed that they had had their money and now wanted us to hurry up and leave.

They did however look after my niece during her stay there for her wedding extremely well which I am grateful for.

Nailcote Hall could be absolutely fantastic, however they need to work on their customer service after all that is what it is all about. Going that extra mile to give your customers that bit of magic they are looking for. When they have done that, all the other places in the area had better look out because this place will be hard to beat.

Room Tip: The rooms in the main build are much better.

We meet family here at least once a year. The lads play golf on the stunning par 3 course that is part of the hotel and the girls head off to a spa. The hotel is lovely, nice rooms, 'oldy worldy' yes, tired no. Great service at reception albeit the bar service is a bit slow - but this is a hotel, not a pub. We don't eat here as we always have reservations elsewhere but breakfast is always good.

Thanks for another great, relaxing weekend.

Paul

Rick it was a pleasure to run our clients' senior team workshop at your hotel recently. All of the staff were helpful, friendly and serving; nothing was too much trouble. Having working internationally now for 20 years and been in as many hotels most have less adequate service! It was refreshing and energising to work with you and your team. Please pass on my personally thanks and we'll be back as soon as we can, take care Gary

Room Tip: Just speak to the team!

This pretty hotel sets its self up as a luxury venue, but does not pull it off. Nothing is really bad/awful but it does not attend to the customer service detail, that its price tag demands.

Good points: very clean; staff generallyefficient; evening resturant waiter provided a personal, relaxing atmosphere; comfortable beds; hot water.

Bad points: tired room furnature; receptionist was more interested in getting the post out than checking us in; dead flowers on the dining table; all the good food selections have a suppliment; re-fried chips dont work!

Hotel Manager: please retrain your team to provide a personal service for guests to make them feel welcome and valued (resturant waiter already does this - use him to cross train). Re-price your menu to banish supplements, as these cause guests to focus on price, not the food. These finishing touches will give your hotel a luxury wow factor that matches the price tariff.

We checked in and were shown to the room (room 248 cherry) We were surprised to find it was split into the bedroom a little dressing room and a livingroom/tv room and a bathroom. The room seemed lovely as it was full of character as its in the old wooden part of the building. We opened some windows but found one was hanging off and about to fall out so we didnt touch it. We found spider webs on the inside of most windows and behind the couch in the livingroom (you have to step behind the couch to open the window) there were 4 containers of very dusty pot puri and thick black dust under the radiator. it seemed instead of cleaning the dusty spider webs the leaflets on the table had a higher priority as both days they had been arranged in a certain way (even though half were out of date!) The bathroom was lovely and clean but if you sat on the toilet the seat slides to the right so you end up against a wall (not a nice experience if you have had a drink or 2 in the bar) When we switched the lights on we found the 2 didnt work and one had no bulb in it. The building and grounds are fantastic! We stayed for 2 nights and on both nights we had alot of noise from the weddings! The first one there was noise till 1.30am as they were stood drinking and smoking right outside our windows. Under our windows seemed to be the smokers area for staff and guests as there was 2 seats but the old lead windows didnt fit fully so even when closed it was unpleasent as a none smoker. We even witnessed the duty manager smoking there. We ate in the hotel both nights and the food was the best we have had! The chef there is fantastic and makes the experience a great one. If i lived close enough to just come for a meal i would! Even though the weddings got in the way the food made up for it! I hope the chef got one of the messages we passed on about how good the food was as we eat out alot and its the best we have had!!! we reported all the problems on checkout so hopefully some will have been fixed before the next guests! we used the pool and found it to be lovely if there had been many ppl there it would have seemed abit small as the changing rooms were quite small but we were the only ppl there at the time and spent around 2 hours in the pool by ourselves so it was a nice experience! i wish i could give a higher rating but we even had to talk to the duty manager to sort out one of our problems (which i would add was caused by unclear instructions to staff) service when we were having out 2 meals was fantastic and the staff were really nice and had tried most of the food on the menu so could help with your meal choice! thankyou to the staff in the oak dining room you made the trip so much nicer then it would have been!

Room Tip: ask for one away from the weddings as they cause alot of noise if you are not part of them! also che...

I cannot praise this beautiful Hotel enough. A beautiful setting , feels like you are isolated in the middle of the countryside ,even though its a short drive from surrounding towns.
The inside of the Hotel is as beautiful with well appointed rooms and exceptional cleanliness.
The staff are second to none especially in the Oak Room, where nothing seems too much trouble.
Food is well presented and plentiful. Any delays are welcomed between the arrival of courses to appreciate the quality and amount of the well thought out freshly prepared menu.
A place to put on your map. Cannot wait to visit again.
