On Sunday 26th May we were married at the Holiday Inn Washington. I do hope that we can do justice in this review to how great this whole experience was for us.
Over the year or so in the run up to the big day we dealt with the lovely Michelle Christie who was our allocated Wedding Planner. We hope that by the time of the big day she had come to love our at times meticulous planning and ideas, well everybody wants to make the big day special don't they! Nothing was ever any trouble to Michelle who went out of her way to make sure things went as planned, speaking to the necessary people as a way of taking the stress out of the planning day. She was always contactable and responded very promptly to everything, although at times I'm sure she would smile at the quirkiness of some of the requests.
Onto the big day then when we were placed into what turned about to be the very capable hands of Richard who would assume maître d / master of ceremony duties. We had met briefly on the Friday when he and the catering staff took charge of amongst other things pork pie and wedding cheese cakes plus items for each table on the big day. We cannot thank Richard enough for the steady and reassuring hand he applied to the proceedings. Oh, as an aside he has a speaking voice is made for such occasions. Can we say that he is the Morgan Freeman of the Holiday Inn?
Michelle's role cannot be underestimated either. We were well aware that she went over and above her duties staying well beyond her finish time to ensure everything went well on the day.
The other staff on duty also contributed to the smooth running of our special day. We were well aware that there had been another wedding the day before plus there were 4 coach loads of other hungry and thirsty customers to cater for. We realise and thank them all concerned for there diligent and hard work because at times I'm sure things would have been creaking behind the scenes taking into account the sheer weight of numbers they were dealing with and the expectations that come form this.
The hotel as a whole was clean, tidy and very much up to the task of hosting our special day. I know from talking to our guests that they were pleased (I hesitate to use the word surprised because that could be seen as unfair) at the venue. We were even helped by the weather which allowed access to the outside areas of the hotel. The hotel even provided us with a heart shaped cloud for the day!
The food was excellent, tasty and well presented. This relates to the wedding breakfast, the evening buffet and the breakfast the following day. We will be using the restaurant facilities again in the near future such was the good standard of the food.
The bar staff deserve credit for dealing with what was a constant stream of thirsty guests. Yes there was small queues at times but what do you expect when 300+ people want a drink. The drinks were good quality and priced as expected for a hotel.
The room used for the weeding breakfast took my breath away in seeing it set up ready for everyone. It looked fantastic. Again a big pat on the back for the staff in turning the room around so quickly after the marriage ceremony (again the room looked fantastic for that). This continued into the evening when there was a change of rooms to the restaurant area, this again being immaculately set up.
Overall in our opinion a perfect day helped by the hard working staff at the Holiday Inn. Thanks to all. Obviously we don't have any plan to get married again however we would certainly recommend the Holiday Inn Washington as a wedding venue to everyone. The whole wedding package is total value for money and we could not have wished for any more. So thank you, thank you, thank you! We really appreciate the very hard work of all concerned.
(PS Michelle, we're looking to book our 1st anniversary celebrations there...tbc! See you soon. take care x).
