“Not really just about Catherine Cookson”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

Almost didn't go here as a lot of the marketing said it was a museum about Catherine Cookson, who I've never read, and have relatively little interest in (although I have somewhat more having visited the museum). However, the thing is that while the museum is in large part based around Catherine Cookson, it just uses her life and times as a hook to hang a load of social history off, which really well presented and of interest whatever you think about Cookson herself. Well worth a visit as it's free. Art Gallery's not up to much though...

“small and interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

this was free and not too big but very interesting. There was information about Catherine Cookson which I liked and lots about the local area. Some museums can be too big and get boring but this was big enough to make it worthwhile but not so big that you got fed up.

“Hard times Good Times”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

The displays are well set out telling the story from roman shields to today some hard times and some good times. Some affluent times some very poor times. Ship repair and the coal industry feature heavily as you would imagine. Good time but I would eat elsewere.
