“Pleasant Enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

This is the second visit we have made this year and I am originally from the area and remember the hotel in its hay day! Yes the hotel in parts is tired and dated and serious work is needed in certain areas, but it does have a certain charm the rooms we have had have been very nice, the staff are charming and helpful and the food was good especially Breakfast cooked to order and also room service! Nothing is too much trouble here so if you can look past the leaking roof and the areas that need attention you will have a pleasant stay. There is noise from Reigate Hill, but its not enough to keep you awake. recommend crossing the road to visit the View Point stunning!

Room Tip: Balcony Rooms great for sitting outside - yes a tad in need of a bit of work, but with a glass of wi...

We stayed for a rat pack evening. The hotel certainly needs some attention one area has clearly suffered a leek. I would also suggest some staff training in attendance to detail, firstly we ordered some drinks from reception as nobody at the bar took around 40 minutes to be poured? The event was ok however food typically mass produced, when the enter net finished the music was played through the organisers iPod ! Oh very professional. Very dated. The hotel is rated 3* which I think needs a review along with a new event organiser. Breakfast was ok please look into your sausages they are not great.

I stayed here for one night in early December. The hotel is full of potential but the way it looks from the outside and in seriously lets it down. I entered the hotel from the back entrance, where I was met with a poor impression (see photo 3).

The room itself is clean and was warm, but I would not have felt safe if I had left the complex for dinner due to the poor state of the door frame. Easily accessible to someone who wants to break in,

Room service was excellent and the staff were really friendly. If you want people to write good reviews, then all the pictures I have posted need to be addressed. This does not cost a lot of money to rectify, but is embarrassing for you as a hotel.

Do you really want first impressions of your hotel to be the pictures I was greeted with (top and bottom picture)

Just lacks that TLC, from a regular business traveler, I would only stay here again if the issues were resolved

Thank you for your review and I am delighted you enjoyed your stay and found the team to be friendly and efficient.

Unfortunately there are issues with the roof which resulted in the areas you photographed in a secondary entrance. These are beyond the scope of the hotel maintenance team to rectify and every effort is made to keep these areas clean and tidy whilst a permanent solution is sought.

Whilst we cannot do much about this area at the moment, we can do something about everything else in the hotel and I am delighted you enjoyed your stay.

Thank you

Kind regards

David

We booked for just one night to go to a friends party in Reigate.

The reception décor is quite old fashioned and a bit grubby. The room was very warm and extremely large with a very good sized bed which was comfortably okay. The bathroom was clean but basic - you will need to take all toiletries (except for shower gel/soap).

There was a veranda to our room but as it was the end of November we did not use it although it faced the main road and was noisy (as we discovered when we opened the window in the morning) and also needs some general maintenance.

The staff were friendly enough.

Breakfast was okay and a little expensive at £7.50 per person and £9.95 if not pre-booked on arrival. We had to ask for more toast and as it was at the end of the breakfast sitting it was obvious there was no bread left as we were given the crusts.

Car park a little difficult to manoeuvre in and out of and very dark at night - a bit dodgy to navigate in high heels!

The hotel and room was ideal for our purpose but I would not want to stay longer than one night.

Thank you for your review and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay. The verandahs prove very popular in the summer with our guests and I am pleased that the double glazing did the trick and you noticed how effective it was when you opened it in the morning!

In common with many hotels now, as most people bring soaps etc which they use at home, we provide a multi purpose soap/shower gel which cuts down on wastage and seems generally acceptable.

I do hope you will use the hotel again and assure you of my best attention at all times.

Kind regards

David

Having booked on late rooms and reading that it had been refurbished, we were very disappointed
Thankfully we had only booked one night.
Shabby rooms and dirty carpets, telephone not working and dripping taps.
However bed clean and comfortable and breakfast good.
Would not stay again

Thank you for your review and I am glad that you found the hotel to be clean, comfortable and with a good breakfast.

The hotel was refurbished and it is very much hoped that funds in the future will be available to "touch up" some areas as the popularity of the Bridge house inevitably leads to some wear and tear which we try to keep pace with.

Kind regards

David

Having returned to the hotel after many years, I was disappointed to see the results of the 2008 renovation. While the reception area is certainly more modern, the carpet is very dirty on the main walkthrough, so standards haven't been maintained. Groupon advertised a room upgrade on arrival if available, but although we checked in quite early and the hotel didn't appear to be full, this was not forthcoming and the room we were initially given the key to was then suddenly changed to a smaller one.

Why on earth would you replace roomy wardrobes with a small protruding frail rail in the room itself, leaving large empty alcoves? And who thought that 2 coathangers would be sufficient for two people staying for two nights? It's also a mystery to me why any hotel retains shower curtains rather than screens, ok the cost, but perhaps that's the reason for the huge damp patch and damaged ceiling above the stairs to the lower floor, so maybe a false economy. The TV reception was unpredictable and on one day the main channels weren't available at all.

This hotel certainly needs more investment and another upgrade to bring it up to current standards.

Having said that, the hotel does have some charm, is very convenient for the M25 and many of the staff are helpful and pleasant. It was great to see that Moncho soldiers on!

Thank you for your review and as a past user of the Bridge House I am disappointed that you did like the massive improvements that were made by the owners of the hotels after decades of no investment by the previous owner.

Every area of the hotel has been improved and the area with the leak in the ceiling is on a secondary staircase with a flat roof above, not a bedroom or bathroom.

Shower screens were not fitted as the majority of our guests who were asked for their opinion said they preferred curtains to screens, but we did fit curved shower rails to allow more space.

Moncho will probably be there for ever and I am delighted that apart from not liking our improvements you enjoyed your stay.

I do hope we will see you again.

Kind regards

David

We were looking for a hotel near the children’s trust at tadworth we hoped we had found the ideal place at a good price as we will be visiting regularly for some months,
We had been in long delays on the road and didn’t look our best. When I got out of the car it started to slide down hill on the gravel when I told the receptionist she said you need to put old cars in first gear. Its 14 wks old.
My maestro card didn’t work and I was told (we never have trouble you need to see your bank) my other cards worked fine we where then told your in room 18 the second woman said no room 20 Mrs.? Didn’t like room 20 we asked why she said she didn’t like where the bed is.
The mattress was harder than the floor
The room was clean but tired the bedroom door didn’t shut the balcony was dirty the view was non existent even though they make a item of it
The TV picture kept breaking up.
The car park is unlit at night you have to use a torch.
We went to Morrison’s for breakfast

Thank you for your review which I have discussed at length with Linda Darbon the General Manager at the hotel who you spoke to about the car rolling back and was there when you checked in.

What Linda actually said was that she found with her car, which she admitted was not brand new, she has to leave her car in gear as well as apply the hand brake, but it seems strange to blame us for offering helpful advice.

Linda intervened to upgrade your room as the room that she moved you to has proved to be a more popular bedroom and was larger. I am also pleased that you found it clean. The car park lights are turned off overnight due to local resident complaints about light pollution.

Sorry we did not live up to your expectations, but I do hope you will use the Bridge House again in the future.

Kind regards

David
