“Beautiful location and quirky, old hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

Stayed at the hotel for a friends wedding. Lovely location and impressive old building with rambling corridors and creaky floorboards. Didn't have an opportunity to try the spa.
The bedroom was excellent, very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Overall service was very good too.

Room Tip: Make sure you know if there is a function on as some of the bedrooms are above the function rooms an...

Thank you so much for your review.

I do hope that you thoroughly enjoyed your friends wedding. It is kind of you to take the time following your stay to post your comments. I am pleased that you found the bed comfortable - we have just installed brand new beds, mattresses, duvets and pillows in many of the rooms, with the rest to follow very soon - it is great to know they are being well received.

Wishing you all the very best for the festive season.

We booked a standard room for 2 nights for a friends wedding and it was just lovely. Very Clean, Cosy and Warm. Even with a cot there was loads of room. having spent a week in a hospital bed with my daughter it was a very welcome very deep sleep!

The food was fantastic both in the restaurant and at the wedding. All the staff were polite, professional and pleased to help.

The only thing I would say is that the bar staff were a bit difficult to get hold of (10+ min wait before I took myself on a jaunt to find one!!) - an issue which I have had both on this visit and a previous visit.

It is good value, but is very easy to spend A LOT when you see the extensive food and wine menu's!! We weren't really expecting our 2 day trip to cost in excess of £1000!!!??? (but we did treat people to dinner and demolitioned far too much good wine and great champagne!)

Oh and the views are to die for!! We will be back

And we didn't even see the health Spa!

Room Tip: I think you are safe with even a standard room, but may wish to pay a bit more for the most amazing...

Great rooms, fantastic location, nice touch of luxury, and I didn't even try the spa facilities. An autumnal stay in one of the larger rooms was a great experience. Drinks in the library before dinner were spot on, but dinner itself was only okay. We kept going into the evening with the bar, and in the morning had a fine breakfast looking out over parkland. So all in all a good country house hotel experience, albeit it's a bit "corporatey".

Thank you for your review - a great title - thank you.

It is lovely to read your comments and to know you enjoyed your stay with us. Apologies that dinner was just okay, dinner is very often the highlight of a stay here at Nutfield Priory so I am sorry if it fell a little short on this particular occasion.

It is kind of you to take the time to give us your comments and we hope to be able to welcome you back soon.

Wishing you all the very best for the festive season.

I booked four rooms for a one night stay on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate for a work's outing. It's hard to please everyone but in this case I can safely say the Nutfield Priory managed to do just that.

The Mansion building itself is beautiful, impressive and so characterful. My standard room was gorgeous. Wonderful sumptuous bed, huge television with wide range of channels, large well appointed bathroom. I was sorry to leave it and go back home!

There were 8 of us and we were given a private dining room. The attention to detail from staff was superb and the food - wow! We could not believe the quality of the menu and meal from our inclusive choices. There were quite a lot of extras to pay for vegetables (£5 a dish) and a supplementary cost of £9 each for steak but if money is not an issue, it's just amazing and so worth it.

A few members of our party used the gym and thought it was great. We loved the feel of the mansion and its views so much that we never even got as far as the spa! The view from the restaurant is just superb.

I hope I have reason to use this hotel again, however I will definitely be looking at the Handpicked group of hotels in the future after this most positive experience. Thank you so much to the staff - you are doing a fantastic job!

After getting married in a Hand Picked Hotel in 2010 and visiting many different HPH over the past few years, I felt fairly confident when booking a spa day for my mother and myself that our day at Nutfield Priory Spa would be a pleasurable experience....

The company was fabulous, the spa not so much!

However...it's not all doom and gloom.
We were greeted by friendly staff and shown round the facilities. During our visit we found most of the staff to be professional, helpful and friendly.

In my opinion the spa was looking somewhat run down in areas. To be specific, the carpets in the stair wells, the shower cubicles were a little rusty, there was no tissues in the tissue holders, toilet paper hadn't been re filled, robes were starting to look rather old, no soap in the shower dispenser, UHT milk rather than a jug of fresh milk. There was scum on the top of the jacuzzi, after scooping this off we got in to find that the chlorine levels/fumes were so over powering and irritating to our eyes that we had to get out within a couple of minutes.
When it came to having a shower and getting change we found the changing room to be over run by (albeit very sweet) little girls getting ready for their ballet class.

Whilst I acknowledge that individually these points all seem fairly minor, it is in my opinion the attention to such detail which makes the distinction between an 'ok' and a 'great' spa experience for the customer.

In comparison to other spas we have visited, Nutfield Priory Spa didn't quite make the grade. It feels a little run down in places and lacks a certain ambience however with a few minor adjustments and a little tlc the spa could improve considerably and would be a good alternative to some of the larger and more costly spas available in the surrounding area.

My husband booked as surprise for my birthday! It was a lovely surprise first impression wow what amazing architecture and views, and friendly staff. In our room bulb over the bed not working, bedside bulb had gone and tea bags in cupboard had not been properly replenished.. The 7 course tasting menu dinner in the cloisters resturant was very good but the plastic wrapper left around our starter of terrine was very off putting!! we mentioned and the the chef came out and apologised to us in person!! did not expect that...Lovely place spa changing area very very tired and in need of attention....staff very good and friendly but the attention to detail was lacking in this establishment. We would probably visit again but would hope the hotel maybe does something about single glazing and being in room 40 the room that backed onto us think it was a suite - paper thin walls and kept awake from 4 3o am till 8 am by our neighbours!! we needed to sleep so this was a real let down..:_((( It was a special offer Bellini champagne gourmet break so was very worth while!..otherwise would have asked for some recompense/

Room Tip: Check room over when you arrive as attention to detail lacking

Old mansion house type hotel from the Handpicked group. Lovely rooms with SKY TV and wifi. Cracking gym which is so large its seperate from the main hotel. Setting is off road with a very large courtyard for parking. I ate out but the menu looked good and reasoanbly priced. Will be back next year for my annual trip.
