House, lodge or hotel? I'd rather call it a B&B, based on the cosy atmosphere, friendly and personal service and great breakfast.
Looking for an affordable place to stay during the Olympics, I found this place due to its location close to the track of the time trial. I chose the cheapest, smallest room with private bath/shower and toilet. Small indeed, with only skylights, but perfect for me. Good bed and towels. Clean. Great toiletries. LCD TV. Room was next to the breakfast area, but with earplugs I wasn't bothered by the sounds in the morning. Breakfast was mainly continental, but had a large choice.
Location outside the centre wasn't a problem, as trains to central Londen departed every 15 minutes and took only about 30 minutes to Waterloo station. Taking a tourist boat to Westminster is a great alternative for a more leisurely trip as well.
Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to enjoy the surroundings and try the great-sounding restaurants (including one Italian by Jamie Oliver), but it seems to me that its a great alternative for central Londen, if you want to stay in a cosy, and more affordable place in a quiet and green setting.
