On arrival to the hotel, it was a pleasant surprise not to have to look for a parking space, little did we know that this would be the worse thing to happen to us. We we're staying at the hotel for work as the job was only 2miles away. Our vehicle is a ford iveco daily cherry picker which we managed to park at the back of the hotel. Upon checking in,there was no mention that our vehicle wasn't safe where it was parked or that there wasn't CCTV in that area, although there was at the front where the Toby Carvery pub was, not knowing this or being told this we thought our vehicle would be safe for the one night stay. To our devastation some time in the night our van had been broken into. As you can imagine we had thousands of pounds worth of equipment in the back. The most valuable of the items were taken. The locks to the side door was broken however the door was closed afterwards and although they could of taken everything they seem to only take the most valuable items, which leads me to believe they are not only mindless thieves but that they know exactly what they was doing! We spoke to two people that worked at the Toby Carvery, both said that we most of been the 3rd or 4th person it had happened to that WEEK, which the police had attended for a separate breaking, they both told us that it was something that had been happening for years. When I then asked the Travelodge receptionist why at the very least they don't tell their customers there is CCTV at the front of the car park to give them the option, the answer I got was "we don't get told by head office to tell or ask our customers that" and they claim to be unaware that vans get broken into on a weekly basis, although the women from Toby Carvery told me that they have told Travelodge to tell their customers they are welcome to park at the front and if there isn't parking spaces on arrival that it's best to wait till 11pm when the pub is closed and to then move their vehicles. All in all I believe that Travelodge are fully aware of the thefts that are going on,on a weekly basis and instead of putting CCTV up to give their customers some reassurance that they and their vehicles are some what safe in the night, they choose not to, instead they know this goes on and continue to take money off good paying people only for some of us to be victims of this devastating crime. If you stay at this hotel it will definitely be your last and most expensive stay in Croydon I'm sure you'll ever have.
