“A fantastic place to relax in comfort coupled with great style”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I stayed here on a business trip with a colleague back in October on his recommendation and as someone that spends on average one to two nights away per week in faceless, cold, corporate hotels who believe only men travel on business... I cant praise this place highly enough . The whole ambience of the place was wonderful from the open fires to the comfortable and tastefully appointed rooms it really was a rare find and a great wind down at the end of a busy day. The staff and the Manager struck just the right balance of attentiveness and relaxed personable service. The complimentary nightcap in each room and the bar available for guests is something I have never seen before and was a great personal touch which hopefully will not be abused but warmly appreciated by their guests. I for one will definitely return, it was exceptional value for money and I couldn't fault my stay.

Amazing food, quirky cosy rooms and ultra attentive staff. It's just the little things... staff offering a table near a plug socket when they notice a laptop under my arm for example.
Really unusual menu, I'm fussy but was spoilt for choice! Pumpkin and parmesan soup was amazing.
Complimentary Sloe Gin in the rooms... great touch!
The hotel is in a blackspot for most mobile networks so free UK landline calls is a nice touch, and of course there is free wifi.
We've been on the road for the past 9 days and this place is home form home, easily beating all the Holiday Inn's and Marriotts we've stayed in this week. Faultless, I'll be back soon!

Room Tip: All rooms have complimentary Sloe Gin, which makes ANY room a great choice! :)

To the tune of “All I want is a room somewhere”

This hotel looks a very smart place
But a pretty young girl won’t let me leave my case.
Another one doesn’t want to book me in
But there’s a very fine smell of dinner cookin’.
The fish pie looks good to eat somewhere
Fully booked – ask the barman if I can have it there;
You must be crazy - “Where will it end?”
The bedroom’s clean and prepared with care
But the shower drain’s blocked so I can’t rinse my hair.
Instead I’ll try to use the basin
But the tap comes off when I put my face in.
They need a good plumber and the staff need training
But it’s cosy in here – outside it’s raining.
Rob at Reception is efficient, helpful, and kind
A man more promising would be hard to find.

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights, rural location lovely comfortable room, great value for money, decor a bit like a smaller version of Hotel Du Vin, so we loved the style and little touches. Complimentary Simpsmith sloe gin in the room for us to enjoy, lovely!
Hotel manager and staff very friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the restaurant one night food was very nice but a bit formal for us, ate in the bar the second night lovely relaxing atmosphere, comfortable chairs fireplace. Team behind the bar were really nice checking we were ok and mixing that lovely Winter cocktail of the month for me with rosemary/cranberry etc. Breakfasts we had were very nice too.
The only negative things we have to say is would have liked a larger menu offering a bit more choice both in the bar/restaurant and breakfast choices, but what we did have was very good. Tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms would be a good addition, to as had to use the communal tea/nespresso machines sited on the same floor as the rooms. WiFi not available and mobile signal poor, but complimentary use of in room telephone available instead, Overall had a great stay great customer service and would definitely return and recommend.

We came to stay at the Bel and The Dragon the night after our wedding. The room was clean, calming and cosy. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was powerful and hot. Having sloe gin in the room was a nice touch as was access to Nespresso coffee and a selection of malt whiskey. The only downside was that our room was immediately above the restaurant and we could hear the diners below very clearly. This wouldn't have been a problem normally as the closed at 11pm but we were exhausted from the wedding celebrations and had chosen to go to bed early. The sound proofing between the room and corridor was not very effective as we could hear late night guests returning to their rooms. The staff were all very accommodating and friendly and the food for dinner and breakfast was excellent. We would definitely return for another stay.

We stayed in this hotel approimately 10 years ago when it was called The Pide of the Valley, it was pretty good then, it is really excellent now. It has been totally refurbished, the rooms are very very comfortable and well appointed. Upstairs there is a snug for coffee and complimentary single malt whisky, there is even a bottle of Sipsmith Sloe Gin in the room, should you feel the cold. All the touches and value at £125 for a double b&b.
The staff, whist very young are helpful and attentive. The yougest bar man ever produced a very tasty martini (£7), which happened to be sorely needed.
The restaurant has a varied and inetersting menu and a full wine list (with some special Clarets). We started with extra large whitebait and aspargus with poached duck egg, both delicious, then shared the rib of beef at £66... it was beautifully cooked and presented and worth the money.
There is a disjoint between bar, restaurant and accounting, drinks and things not added to the bill, which we had to point out.
Due to its location (black spot) there are free local telephone calls and to mobiles as well as wifi.
Otherwise first class and we are looking for an excuse to return.

We got home yesterday after an exciting week for us in England the highlight of which was Marion's birthday party at the hotel. Frankly it is difficult for me to find any constructive comments as to how to improve since the event was overall spectacular. Our waitress even took some great photos for us as a record of the evening. Also, your staff did very well with two very energetic and sometimes noisy young boys - our grandkids - and coped quickly with the inevitable spill of beer by the younger chap. The food was confirmation of the reason why we chose B&D for the event in the first place - it was exceptional. Our relatives also enjoyed the evening and their stay at the hotel that evening. You have done a great job there and each time we now come back to the UK we end up at your hotel for a meal - I shall be back (by myself this time) mid-November and already looking forward to another evening at the Bel.
Best wishes,
John
