“Lovely quiet setting for an overnight stop.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

We arrived lunch time Sunday and within 20 minutes had a drink and a Roast in front of us. Dining room has wonderful views across the big pond, loads of wildlife to watch while dining and staff manage to provide what you need without seeming to interrupt the meal experience. The food was good, though wine at (£19)..... for the low end of the menu cheapskates amongst us....... is slightly at the top end that people like to pay . To be fair coffee/tea was good value and the food is not overpriced for a restaurant in a nice place.
Rooms great, staff great, no English staff I observed, but that's not a problem for me just a bugbear that young brits don't seem to want to learn the hotel trade perhaps !!!
Overall I rate the hotel a VG minus. Nice place for a scenic stay and pretty good food, but if you drink a few at the bar, bring a bit of extra cash as its a bit pricey drinkswise.

Ten trustees of a charity at Kings College Hospital went here for the peace and quiet and for the location for our ladies to enjoy whilst we were working.
From the moment we checked in on the Saturday everything was ready for us. After checking in the ladies enjoyed tea and coffee in the bar whilst we went to the Pond View Room for our meeting, where it was difficult to concentrate with lovely views over the lake.
Everything in the room was as you'd expect and our afternoon tea arrived exactly on time.
We finished our meeting at 6pm and those ladies who had walked around the lake had returned and it was time to relax in our rooms before pre-dinner drinks. As elsewhere the bar staff were most attentive and we were ready for dinner at 8pm.
Again the staff who looked after us were most attentive without crowding us as we had a large table for 18 of us set up in the ante room to the garden suite. Great setting as we could talk with most of the party.
The pre-ordered dinner was exceptional and the testament were 18 clear plates at the end. The hotel added a complimentary sorbet which went down well. After we settled down to a good night's rest in very comfortable rooms we were ready for Sunday breakfast.
In spite of a large number of guests staying for a nearby wedding the hot buffet was quickly and expertly replenished by the staff and nobody had to wait for anything. This has to be one of the best breakfasts anywhere and the sausages are to die for.

Smooth check out facilities and we were away at our leisure. We hold this event annually and a 100% vote ensured that we have already booked for the same weekend in 2014.

Don't change anything, particularly the caring staff. Well done the management.

Room Tip: The executive garden rooms are nicely refurbished and extra quiet. Try and get a lake view if you ca...

Stayed October 2013 for one night on business.

Pro's:
-Exemplary service (reception staff, bar staff and restaurant staff) all very helpful, friendly, prompt and knowledgeable
-Cleanliness - everywhere immaculately clean
-Room is large and clean and good choice of TV channels - everything you need.
-Good menu.
-Nice location with great views over lake
-Good breakfast choice, and well cooked

Con's:
-My room (standard) was a little dated, nothing worn out or broken, but it was very 1980's
-Bar area is not really welcoming - very, very quiet.
-restaurant is to brightly lit
-restaurant food at Dinner is OK/average but nothing really special and does not match the service of the waiters / waitresses.
-juices at breakfast were not fresh
-zero phone reception (not good when wanting to make business calls)
-whole hotel has a bit of a 1980s vibe...

It was fine for business stay - there is nothing really to complain about - but wouldn't really want to stay with the family.
However, with some modernisation it would be really a nice place to stay.

(Would give 3.5 if i could - 3 is too low - but 4 would be too high)

Room Tip: Upgrade to an executive - these look to have been redecorated.

Dear AJN 11

Thank you for taking teh time to share your expereince here on Facebook.
A planned refurbishment we hope is not too far away.
The executive bedrooms have recently been refurbished and are extremely popular particularly in Summer with their own private patio and all important air conditioning.
They have a more modern contemporary feel to them as well with lots of little extra add ons.

Thanks again

My wife and I stayed because we needed a place to sleep as we attended friend's wedding down the road.

We booked this venue after we previously spending a day in the area, this included stopping at the hotel for a drink and a nibble. Following that we thought it would be the perfect spot to start the weekend.

Lets start with the not so good and go on from there.

The Pond Suite was the room allocated to us. As we walked up the stairs to our room my wife was the first to mention the carpet on the stairs mask a uneven floor.

The room had 2 small fan heaters blowing on max setting. We turned them off and the room held its temperature. Not sure why they had them in the room as there was a visible radiator.

The spacious room had a basic - and felt like old - double bed. When you book a suite, one expects some upgrades including a decent bigger bed, not just a big room. It all looked and felt very dated. The bathroom too was spacious, however it felt quite stark.

Now the positive side.

The wedding we attend was a early one so we called to check in early and the staff was very accommodating in arranging an early check in. The reception staff was friendly on arrival, the breakfast staff very welcoming and attentive. The breakfast lovely and scrumptious.

Note: when we loaded our car my wife spotted the rooms in the back, they looked new and we wondered if they are the rooms other TripAdvisor's raved about?

The bar area is great and cosy.

Thank you for sharing your feedback here on Trip.

Pond View Suite is a conference syndicate bedroom that is multi purpose bedroom enjoying fine views over the pond and a large bathroom with a corner bath.

We do not sell it as anything more than a standard bedroom.

Very pleased to learn that you found the staff friendly, attentive and welcoming.

We do have executive bedrooms available within the hotel grounds that do have a more modern contemporary style of furnishings and prove very popular throughout the year.

They enjoy a number of added benefits for only a small supplement over the standard bedrooms.

Delighted to leran that reception were able to offer an early check in.

This is not always available but is always welcoming when possible.

Best wishes

great hotel, warm greeting by all very helpful staff,a rare and beautiful setting by the lake, food was all we could wish for, our second visit and have already booked for next year. in some ways it seems a shame to write such a glowing review as i would not like to see the hotel change if it is discovered by more and more people, but the staff and management do deserve to be recognized for all their hard work. many thanks and looking forward to seeing you again, from medway antique and collectors club

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, it was quiet, lovely walks around the ponds, definately beautiful countryside and all the ducks and swans on the pond. Pleasant interior, great food and good and friendly service. Staff were always helpful. My only complaint would be needs Wifi in the rooms.
