“ANOTHER VISIT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

My wife and i visited Best Western Frensham Ponds again for a short break and found that the high standards have been maintained, everything from the staff to the food and rooms was first class and made our visit enjoyable. We have stayed at the hotel a few times and have never been disappointed, and when in the area make a point ofstaying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden suite.

We stayed in the hotel for two nights. These two nights were very good. We had a very nice dinner in the restaurant and had a very nice meal. The chef is one of the best by far! I would recommend everyone to go and check this hotel. The place is very nice and quiet and the surrounding area is very nice for walk in the day. Air is fresh and nice. Rooms are clean and tidy, service is wonderful.

Room Tip: Choose the room in the garden area if possible.

The staff were amazingly friendly and caring. The rooms had no issues, and the food was brilliant. During my stay I had the chance to take a look at the environment surrounding the hotel itself, which was full of breathtakingly beautiful greenery, perfectly complemented by the lake and variety of birds taking residence there. Perfect for a quiet weekend away, or even a party night.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

I have spent the last few months since last reviewing this hotel with great interest and thought maybe its time to add another review.

There have been some very unkind reviews around age and facilities, so here are my views

Rooms - yes they are in a dark style from a few years ago. So what? They are kept immaculately clean and tidy, if you prefer bright colours go elsewhere. I personally find them charming and relaxing

Health Club - the hotel make no bones about the fact it's functional, but also dated. They also let you know that it's available and being updated shortly so don't use it as a selling point. A refreshing bit of honesty.

So why the above if I'm not employed by Best Western?

I have had to spend the last month staying in the area for work purposes and having tried many hotels in the area chose this one to stay in. Out of all in the area Frensham Pond has the most amazing surroundings by far, it's an absolute pleasure to wake up and look out of the window. The food has, without fail been up to the usual high standards. However, the one thing that makes it stand out above anywhere else I've stayed is the staff. They have all spent a month showing that they can be extremely professional, balanced with making you feel as if you belong and that they care. After all the time I've spent there (and still am going to) they make it a pleasure to walk through the door.

Still working in the area I am staying here again tonight and will be on and off for a while and am looking forward to the welcome.

My only bit of advice is if you have an issue, tell someone before allowing it to sour your views. I haven't spoken to anyone from the General Manager down who won't bend over backwards to help and not make it seem a burden

So thanks guys from someone who is usually left cold by staying in hotels, but looks forward to seeing Frensham Pond and the team every time

Room Tip: Ideally don't stay in the rooms above the 'archway' it's the only rooms you get pass...

Dear Arobajase

Thank you so much for your 5 star review and all the praise lavished on the hotel and the staff.

The praise for the staff says it all.

Yes we appreciate that some areas of the hotel are in need of upgrading in particular the leisure facilities.

However, the food, cleanliness, staff and location make up for that and we always strive to exceed our guests expectations.

It makes me very proud of my team to read such feedback.

Look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Best wishes

We got married at the hotel last year and went back for our 1st anniversary. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the bridle suite where we stayed the night of our wedding, this instantly made our stay very special. Every member of staff we came into contact with were polite, friendly and congratulated us making the stay very personal and we felt very looked after.
Dinner was amazing all the food was presented nicely and it tasted delicious.
Big thanks to everyone at Frensham Ponds for making our anniversary just as memorable as our wedding.

Stupidly, we ignored the bad reviews here on TripAdvisor, as the hotel's website made it seem like other reviewer's moaning was unwarranted. Oh, silly me. Where do I start?

First impressions are good. You drive around a very picturesque pond, park up and enter an impressive foyer. Desk staff incredibly attentive and helpful. You are given your room key and ascend the stairs (there is no lift) expecting to find a bright and airy room, the hotel's website giving every impression of fresh and newly renovated rooms. WRONG. It's like stepping back into the 70's. With original furniture. And carpets. And wallpaper. The beside table featured a massive plaque naming the hotel (just in case you forgot where you were), and also housed the switches for the lights and power to the TV. I thought that sort of thing was ancient when Basil Fawlty was a teenager. Oh well, as long as we can get a decent sleep, it won't seem too bad. And at least there was a massive new TV.

Except a decent sleep was impossible. Heck, ANY kind of sleep was impossible. To be fair, the mattress seemed reasonably new. But it was dumped on an ancient base, with legs that are ready to fall off. With a massive sag in the middle, inevitably resulting in both of us spending the night on very intimate terms.

Bathroom was likewise tired and dated, with decades of cleaning having rubbed off the shine from every surface. The bathroom door was battered and splintered at the bottom having suffered from decades worth of repeated soaking and drying. And heating was by way of an ancient electric contraption.

On the plus side, Glen on the desk in the morning managed to change us over to a twin room. Although it was just as tired and dated, at least we managed to sleep on the second night. Unfortunately, the room was fitted for disabled guests, who I imagine would struggle to access, as entry was by way of stairs. Perhaps there was a long way round that did away with Dalek Climbing Stairs impersonations, but I couldn't be bothered trying to find out.

If it had just been us being a bit picky, I perhaps wouldn't be so harsh with this review. But we overheard several other gusts complaining, one going so far as to comment that he'd have been better sleeping on the floor. Another guest was telling the desk there was no way she was "spending another night in that bloody bed." as we walked past the next morning.

Our other main issue is with the opening times of the fitness centre. Personally, I'd have loved to go for a swim before breakfast. Unfortunately, the information pack indicated it was only open between 4pm and 10pm. Umm, really? Other hotels I've stayed at have had all day opening. Oh well, never mind.

It wasn't all bad though. The staff are all very keen to make your stay as pleasant as possible, albeit in the face of impossible odds. And meals were fantastic, including breakfast. Which went some way to lifting spirits a little. But since hotels are meant to let you get your head down in peace and comfort, I'm afraid I can't ever see me booking back in here again.

Room Tip: Supposedly there are refurbished rooms. Demand one.

Dear Guest

Please accept my apologies for your disappointment.

I do not recognise your review as being for Frensham Pond Hotel.

You will note that we have many. many possitive feedbacks.

You are right in saying that there are executive rooms and these are available for a small upgrade fee.

I am puzzled with the mention of an employee called Glen as we do not have any employees by that name.

If you care to contact me directly on 01252 795161 I would welcome the opportunity of disucssing your visit with you directly and trying to restore your faith in BEST WESTERN Frensham Pond Hotel.

Kind regards

Kevin

Myself and a friend chose to stay here as the hotel were doing a special offer. Dinner, bed and breakfast cost a shade over £100. Food was fresh, hot, delicious. A la carte standard. Room was spotless with good facilities. Water hot, tea coffee kept replenished and rooms good size. We had a lovely stay and would go there again. Location superb.
