“pleasantly surprised again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Just got back from a one night stay and after reading some reviews i was apprehensive, but i was pleasantly surprised. Our twin room on the ground floor was lovely.Looked like it had recently been refurbished, nice carpet and pretty bed covers and curtains.the beds were very comfy, wide screen tv.
nice clean bathroom, clean white towels.toiletries supplied.Hair drier and ironing board in the room, always saves having to ask to borrow.ample teas and coffees, never enough milks...
The 2 downsides to the room were, having a shower that wouldnt turn off and as late at night nobody to fix it, this was annoying all night.also the radiator was so hot it felt uncomfortable in the room.did try to regulate it.When we got back at 12.15p/m the main doors were locked and it took several attempts to get security to come and let us in. Breakfast was served in the International hotel close by. All in all a very nice stay.

Room Tip: twin room on ground floor 333 was nice

Reception staff didn't seem bothered and most importantly didn't think to mention that breakfast finished at 9.30. We got down at 9.35 and was turned away. Bar advertises hot food but when you eventually get someone to come down to serve you - the best they could offer was a sandwich. Bed was ok and view over the lake was nice but that's the only plus points.
Badly managed!!

Absolutely no surprise that there were plenty of car parking spaces in reception and only 1 other person at breakfast. Bed in room 165 was awful, half of it was ok was solid the other half sunken, suggesting the mattress had never been turned since the bed was put in the room. No biscuits in the room with tea and coffee, suggesting a pathetic attempt of saving money. The patio doors were not sealing properly so letting in cold air and rattling in the wind all night, they also had cobwebs on them on the inside. There was no toilet brush and the toilet needed a clean. Reception staff need to be mindful that their chattering can be heard all over the main lobby. Dinner and breakfast were ok though with a decent choice of food and room service was cheap. With a few tweaks a bit of training this could be a lovely hotel.

I stayed here with a group of friends for a hen weekend because it was fairly close to Thorpe Park.
We had booked two triple rooms well in advance for six of us, but were given double rooms. We went and spoke to the receptionist who seemed really shocked that we wanted a bed each. On the phone to her manager she exclaimed 'yeah, apparently they want, like, a bed each!'. Eventually she gave us keys to new rooms...these were doubles too! While we waited for her to sort things out we noticed a porter running around checking rooms. We joked that he had been sent to count beds in rooms, turns out he had been. After about an hour we finally got our triple rooms, but these were set up for two people so we had to go to reception again to get more towels, glasses, cups etc.

Unknown to us, this hotel has a sister hotel close-by with a similar name. My cousin had booked a room in our hotel herself, but had gone to the sister hotel. While we were trying to sort this out, it transpired that we were also booked into that hotel. Somebody had messed up and booked us into both. Very confusing.

We ate in the hotel and we were the only people in the dining room. For the most part the food was OK apart from some raw chips here and there. Breakfast was very good.

After all the initial problems were resolved, things here were fine. It just seemed a bit dated, pride of place on the wall in the entrance hall were framed pictures of Margaret Thatcher on a trip to the hotel back in the seventies. I think that must have been their heyday.

After driving 5 hours to get to a site in farnborough, and working for 10 hours after that i was looking forward to nothing more than a decent meal, a pint, a shower and a comfortable bed.

The Lakeside offered none of these things.

The first room I was given, the door fell off.
The second room stank of stale smoke, dust and felt uncomfortable. On further inspection, there was grease and grime buildup on all bathroom surfaces, I didn't want to use the shower the bath was that dirty. The TV didn't work, the remote had a length of cable hanging out of it, the bed was lumpy and smelt 50% of dust 50% of stale smoke, the wardrobe trim was split and hanging off, the plaster was heavily marked and cracked etc etc. I have compared this to a youth hostel I stayed in, in Romania, in 1996, under Ceausescu's rule, for around 8pence per night.

We left the hotel for a local restaurant as the smell of the food emanating from the kitchen was not good. We didn't look at the menu, but I assume everything had the option 'with chips' and that everything was deep fried.

When we returned, we had discussed and decided that the 3 of us were being tired and overly critical, so stopped into the bar for a quick drink. 2 pints and a G&T all of the glasses were dirty and the beer was stale, the gin was acceptable.

Next morning the breakfast smelt even worse than the dinner, so we went to McDonalds as a preference.

The staff were apologetic, but could obviously do little for the overall state of the place, the girl behind the counter obviously felt bad for being there and the 3 people ahead of me and my colleagues were also making complaints about the state of the room.

Needless to say, we cancelled the next two nights, and willingly drove some 30 miles to a hotel that we know is good.

Avoid at all costs, and speaking of cost, this place cost the same as the very modern and up to date, and clean Heathrow T5 Holiday Inn at around £80 per room.

Wish I had taken some pictures... but imagine the apocalypse of filth...

Room Tip: Choose another hotel. The Premier Inn is new and seems OK.

There on a business trip. Excellent facilities. Large comfortable rooms with everything you need for a good stay. Breakfast was good too. Can't fault it. Booked it through late rooms so felt for the price I'd paid it represented good value compare with places that cost twice as much.

The hotel is dirty and with basically no service.
Rooms old and not kept up. Wifi does not work and bed linen are dirty -
The hotel bar is crowded with locals watching football games and making noise.
Breakfast is really terrible and coffee tastes like dirty hot water. No chance of having a proper coffee or tea.

Fitness centre/spa is a real joke - you don't want to go there!
Restaurant is available at the International Lakeside Hotel nearby and although cheap is really bad (I had a salmon supreme that made me sick)

Quite cheap, but a real nightmare
