“Good "functional" hotel, great staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

This is a modern hotel which is clean, comfortable and functional rather than being characterful or elegant. Booking well in advance for a Thursday and Friday stay, the room rate was very reasonable and I cannot fault the facilities which are well up to scratch for this type of hotel.
The hotel is on the site of the Snowdome complex (the reason for our visit) and consequently could not have been more convenient for us.
We arrived after considerable rain in the area which had resulted in most of the carpark being flooded and unusable. We happened to get a safe parking slot so didn't move the car during the visit for fear of being unable to park on our return. I blame the freak "weather gods" for this rather than any failing of the hotel.
The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We ordered take away meals on the two evening, these were delivered to the hotel and the hotel reception staff even provided us with plates and cutlery. The bar, although not hugely overstocked with a wide range of drinks, was more than adequate for our needs.
Breakfast was free and plentiful. The choice of cooked items was very limited (toast, scrambled egg, sausages and baked beans) and the quality was about that which you would expect from a supermarket cafe. There was a reasonable range of cereal's etc. and perfectly respectable tea, coffee and herbal teas on offer.
There is no hotel fitness centre or swimming pool but very good ones are available one minutes walk away in the Snowdome complex for a price. I paid £20 for a day's membership, which also could have included some classes or access to the spa if I had wanted it - not cheap but high quality and extensive facilities.
If we went back to the Snowdome for a pre-season warm up ski in the future, where would we stay? Here, without hesitation.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

We recently spent 2 nights at this hotel and were not disappointed. The staff were second to none with their advice, recommendations and friendliness. The rooms were spacious, modern and clean with lots of towels and pillows and tea/coffee making facilities.
We booked in advance and got a very cheap rate and couldn't believe it included breakfast!
Breakfast although not 5*, was more than adequate considering how little we paid for the room. There was a great selection of cereals, choice of white and brown bread for toast and croissants. Sausages, beans and scrambled egg. All the tea and coffee you could drink. Why would anyone complain!!
My husband left behind a new pair of trousers and the staff have posted them off to him. Great service.
Would highly recommend this hotel as it was central to everything.

Room Tip: Pick a room not overlooking the main road for extra quietness.

This hotel is decorated and presented to a very high standard, and the prices are brilliant, but when we book a hotel with a breakfast included we expect a little more.

The rooms are clean and well sized, bathroom is also lovely with a nice shower, had a great nights sleep and was looking forward to a nice breakfast.

The seating area is small and is more like a bar than a mini restaurant for serving customers their food, they include hot favourites which is salty scrambled egg, beans and sausages. Other items included orange coloured water and other general low priced breakfast items.

The hotel could be so much better if a little more attention was paid, I struggle to understand the concept of above standard decor coupled with low standard consumables (breakfast)

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking time to write a review.

We are pleased to hear you liked the decor of the hotel, the room size and the bathroom.

I was reading your breakfast comments disappointedly.
Our breakfast area can accommodate 70 people at the same time, which on normal weekdays is efficient. On weekends we have a larger number of guest and we use out conference rooms as extension of the breakfast area. We do try to control the number of guest coming done at the same time by supplying tickets when each guests check in to pre book breakfast slots.

We offer a complimentary continental breakfast with limited hot option. We are limited in offering by our brand standards.

Our team is working hard to make sure everything is up to standard. If you experienced a situation where we ran out of Orange juice or it was not to your liking next time, please feel free to contact one of our team members and they will change or replace the items. They will be more than happy to help.

Once again thank you for your feedback we take all comments seriously.
I hope to welcome you again in the near future.

Despite having to share car parking facilities with the Snowdome because of the rain (some of the car park was under water!) an emergency plan had been put into action and everything was under control parking wise. Very pleased with the hotel, the rooms were of a good standard, clean and well kept likewise the public areas. Breakfast was the usual Holiday Inn offering but of a reasonable standard and well serviced and the staff were very pleasant, courteous and polite. We were combining a trip to see family with a visit to Winter Wonderland with our granddaughter at the Snowdome (next door to the hotel) and wouldn't hesitate to use the hotel again. Evening meals weren't available at the hotel but on arriving we were directed to the restaurant at the Snowdome where, as hotel guests, we received a 10% discount on the (very nice) meal. Take away menus were also available at reception for delivery to guests. Bar prices comparable to most hotels.

Room Tip: If possible, try to get a room on the side of the hotel that overlooks the lake - the rooms on the o...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking time to write a review about your stay.

Due to recent heavy rains we experienced some difficulty with our lovely lake. It flooded the bottom car park, but as you kindly mentioned it was all very well managed and every guest found a space to park.

Apologises because we are not a full serviced hotel, we only offer evening meal form Monday to Thursday, but as you have mentioned we can recommend restaurants and offer take away menus for weekend visitors.

Once again thank you for your feedback and hopefully see you again in the hotel soon.

Good chain hotel experience, staff friendly & hotel very clean (rooms and public areas).

Room allocated (3rd floor) was a good size, double bed, decent sized LCD TV (several channels). Bathroom was also a decent size, with a large shower.

One thing to note, this hotel does seem to still have smoking rooms, make sure you have booked the type of room you really want.

Didn't have an evening meal in hotel but did have a couple of breakfasts, perfectly adequate to start the day with 2-3 cooked items and the rest cold items, cereal, toast etc.

We did eat out in evenings, several options across the dual-carriageway (overpass), had a really nice Indian meal (Champagne restaurant) as recommened by reception.

Overall, no issues in staying here again.

Room Tip: Check room booked carefully (WRT smoking/non smoking)

Visited the hotel to allow me to miss the rush hour commute to a nearby training facility. The postcode dropped me in some car park on the other side of the dual carriageway and being dark had to ask someone local for advice.
Good car park in the snow drome facility, close to the hotel and well lit.
Was on the 4th floor near the lift, very quiet room even when facing the road. Missing the bulb from the table lamp, Sarah from reception was very good to find me a spare bulb, that lasted for maybe 5 seconds and no more spares, the other lady whose name I forgot came up to tweak the heating & ventilation system that was set to 31C, no instructions and eventually got it sorted.

TV has premium options, so parents need to be aware, think it was £9 to watch battleships, but had already watched on a much larger screen :)

Food on site with nice selection of drinks and some classic meals, reasonably priced and would be happy to stay and eat here again.

Room was very clean, did not use the internet, but no need to do so.

Double bed with a choice of 2 firm or 2 soft pillows, labelled so a nice touch.

Very clean.

Pre paid on flexible booking for about £70, the day rate was i think £120, but no rooms left

Room Tip: any on the fourth floor :)

Dear Mr Liddle,

Thank you for your feedback about your recent stay with us in the Holiday Inn Express Tamworth.

We are located next to the Snow Dome and we share the same car park. I am sorry your satellite navigation did not direct you here. We have experienced this problem with a certain type of Sat nav system.

I am pleased you found the room quiet, albeit we had a few hiccups in the room maintenance; I am pleased to hear our team tried to correct the issues.

We have free view TV channels in the hotel, giving plenty of option to choose from. We also have ‘pay movies’ which cost from £8.95 per movie. These movies are Blockbuster movies and get updated on a regular monthly basis.

We are delighted to hear you were satisfied with our limited evening meal offers and the prices.
We look forward to welcoming you again in the very near future.
