“A spa away from the stresses of everyday life!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

Well I haven't even left yet and am currently writing this review from a hot tub outside of my suite! A beautiful location with staff who genuinely look happy in their work! Our one night spa included a six course taster evening meal with five glasses of wine! Luckly it wasn't far back to the room!!
The only downside is no mobile phone signal, you do however have free wifi in your rooms but not anywhere else around the spa.
I opted for a hot stone massage which was lovely, just a shame I was first on the list at 9am, with breakfast finishing at 9.30 on a week day it meant a very early start (after a late night with 5 glasses of wine)!!! Breakfast is continental, with a good choice of cereals, bread, meat, cheese and fruit. It's such a quiet location I almost felt scared to talk through fear of disturbing other guests!
For the more sporty types there is a tennis court (you can borrow equipment) gym and a scenic walk, you can also hire bikes (free of charge).
I would certainly recommend Moddershall for anyone who wants to escape from the outside world!

We held our daughters wedding here and it was excellent, the service was great, the food was great and the wedding planner Jenny was organised and cool under pressure.
The setting is amazing for the wedding album and we got some great photos. I would reccommend this hotel to anyone looking for a wedding venue and other than the drinks being a bit pricey I couldnt fault it

My friends and I checked in to the hotel at 14:40, and unfortunately as check-in isn't until 15:00 our room wasn't yet available. We were offered our welcome drink in the bar, and told that our room would be available in approximately 20 minutes. However, a couple of minutes later we were told that unfortunately the room was having a television installed, and as they were running a little late we wouldn't be able to access our room until 16:30. Apologies were issued, and we were told we would be given a complimentary bottle of wine, and that we could change in a spare room. At 16:30 we tried to go back to our room to be told that unfortunately it still wasn't available. It was 17:30 before we could go to our room.

When we got to our room it was lovely. The room was very nicely decorated, clean, luxorious and had a very calming atmosphere. The hot tub outside the rooms was also lovely.

At 19:00 we went down to the restaurant/bar for dinner, where we were given the menu, and told that we could choose from the one side of the menu, as we were having 3 courses. We told the waiter that actually we were on the package for 5 courses. We were then given the wine menu, at which point we asked about our complimentary bottle of wine, which we hadn't yet received, to be told "It's in your room isn't it?". On going though to the restaurant we were served by a waiter who had serious personal hygiene issues and was completely over familiar (rude), to the point that it actually ruined our meal. The really sad point is that the food was absolutely amazing.

At breakfast the following morning a young girl asked for our name, and then when we told her she said "Oh, there's three of you now, are there?" There had always been three of us. Three of us which we had actually paid for! When she showed us through to the restaurant she pointed at a table and walked off muttering that she would get cutlery for the third place setting. As the table was tucked in the corner, we moved to the table that had the view of the lake. When she came back she said "Oh, you've decided to move have you?". She never asked us to help ourselves to breakfast, we had to wait for another couple to enter the restaurant to find out what we actually needed to do!! My friend ordered a coffee, but when the coffee arrived, as it was so strong decided to have a cup of tea so asked for another cup. She waited for 5 minutes, and when no cup materialised I passed her a cup from another table, at which point the young girl stomped across the restaurant to replace the cup from the other table.

The treatments that we all had in the spa were fantastic. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, and the spa facilities were incredibly relaxing. We were only away one night, and it felt like we were away about a week (in a very good way!).

We finished our stay with lunch in the restaurant, which I'm very pleased to say was a completely different situation to that of the evening before or breakfast.

Thank you to all the staff in the hotel, kitchen and spa facilities for such a lovely stay, it's just a shame that the same can't be said for the restaurant staff.

Stayed here on a weekend luxury break in august. The room was nice and received a warm greeting from staff. Had access to the outside hot tub which to our horror when the bubbles stopped we were surrounded by numerous insects and dirt. We were given a time of 8pm for dinner so we arrived 5mins early for a drink, we were asked to be seated and someone will come over to take the order. Half an hour later someone took our order even though there seemed to be plenty of staff in ratio to customers. After finally being taken through to our table the long waits between courses seemed very unnecessary. We were served our last course at 22.45! Too late to relax for the evening. The serving staff were friendly and well mannered during service yet we received no apology for the delay. A few days later when checking the bill for the stay we noticed an extra £79 had been added on for no reason at all! For the pool area you had to be lucky to get a lounger. Overall some aspects of this expensive trip were rather off putting.

Stayed on a deal following a visit to a local theme park. Staff friendly throughout and accommodated requests made. Treatment time only disclosed on arrival which some may find off putting if prefer to plan ahead.

Room was lovely with a comfortable big bed. Room very warm and woke few times in evening warm. Lovely views from patio and access to hot tub. Had trouble with the tv volume with it being very quiet and unable to turn up or down but didn't watch much tv. DVD rentals available which is a nice touch.

Spa was nice and not too busy (weekday) Treatment good and would easily upgrade to a longer massage next time.

Restaurant excellent and food very nice.steak was one of the best partner had ever had. Service began quite slowly but leisurely and fitted with the surroundings. Breakfast a little disappointing with no hot options, even just scrambled egg on toast would have been appreciated greatly.

All in all lovely stay, would recommend and return.

A pleasant stay in this hotel. Plenty of parking, although a good slope to walk to reception and no one to collect my bags! We had a very nice room with a separate sitting area and French doors to a decked area outside where there was a bench and table for our use. The French doors also gave us access to the very nice outside hot tub which is for residents use only.
The treatments we booked were satisfactory but a little impersonal. The Gym nice and modern but small and all residents can see you toiling away as it is on the thoroughfare from rooms to reception. The spa area was very nice with steam and sauna, pool and jacuzzi. This area can be busy at times due to the 'day spa guests'. The restaurant and bar area had pleasant staff eager to help - and although the service was good the food, despite being very nice (and good portion sizes), was not quiet as ordered. The continental buffet style breakfast was a little disappointing with my husband having already been swimming before breakfast and having increased his appetite he was ready for a large breakfast but he had to make do with cereal and toast, no cooked breakfast for him! The staff however were very pleasant making breakfast a relaxing event. The reception staff were very helpful but busy doing a myriad of jobs including selling spa products. The Hotel is set in beautiful grounds and has very pleasant walks. We will return as we thoroughly enjoyed the spa area and there is a wonderful sense of calm outside and such pleasant and helpful staff.
