“The best pub in the village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2014

First of all this is not a hotel, it is a village pub with excellent food, wines and beers. 41 of us when for Sunday dinner. The tables were set so that the food, which had been pre ordered, arrived complete table by table. All the staff were polite and helpful and most welcoming. There was a wide choice of great food and I would recommend this pub to anyone any day of the week.

When dining out, one does expect some attention. My party ordered drinks and after approximately 20 minutes my friend had to go to the bar to ask if they had forgotten about us, then had to carry them back to the table. Much the same throughout the meal. It really did spoil our evening out. Giving this restaurant a wide berth from now on.

Went out with my husband for a meal here last Friday. Nice ambiance in the restaurant and guy who served us was very friendly. We both ordered a main course /dessert and the food was fantastic. Will definitely be going again.

This stylish pub is a must go to. Good Service, great food, constantly busy and a specials menu is a bonus. I dined here with my boyfriends family and had to say loved the food selection, spoilt for choice. We all had 3 courses and enjoyed it all. Shall be dining here again.

The revival of The Smithy seems part of a wider upgrading around Eccleshall generally, which now offers some really great places to eat and some excellent small, independent shops. Well worth a visit....but back to The Smithy!

The Smithy has had a number of different owners and identities in recent years. Under the current team it has been turned into a light, bright, modern pub restaurant. I have been there several times, always in the evening when it is very busy. Booking in advance is recommended but you can usually get a table if you ring a day or two ahead.

The service is good, given how busy it is. It's a good menu which could be improved by a little more choice for vegetarians (normally only two choices on the regular menu and nothing on the 'specials' when we last visited. The puddings are particularly worth mentioning - all home cooked and really, really good! If you don't normally indulge in a pud, make this an exception!

The Smithy has a small car park. If you go there after about 7pm, this will be full. Don't panic - you can usually find a space on the High Street.

Nice modern minimalistic restaurant in a converted pub. With good food at reasonable price. good selection of wine and beer. service good if not a little eager to move plates and glasses it did feel as if you've eaten and they wanted to go home !
Car parking in Eccelshall is its usual nightmare although the Old Smithy does have a small car park.

On the hole a pleasant experience

We enjoyed an excellent lunch here mid week. So much so that we have booked for a party of twenty persons early next year. Recently renovated to a very tasteful modern standard. Old by name but not in its decor. Grand venue. Have not viewed any accommodation.
