My family have been visiting the park for nearly twenty years every four years or so.
I have never left a review, but feel I should as the park and the towers hotel left us feeling that we do not look forward to coming back again.
WIFI - the resort states that there is free wifi - between us none of us could connect to the hotel wifi - there was no signal in our room and the room was by no means the furthest from the reception. If you stood in the reception area you can get a signal, but on all of our machines they would not connect - except once for one machine for about 20 minutes.
When I reported the problem at the desk, I was told I was the umpteenth person to complain and that the hotel is about to upgrade the wifi - what? The hotel has been closed all winter and NOW you think that the wifi needs to be upgraded? Not good. Nowadays people expect to get free wifi in hotels, airports etc. remember this is not a cheap hotel to stay at.
The room - we stayed in a family room for four. The whole room was very tired - sink enamel cracking, wall paper starting to peel in places. The main bed mattress was awful - you could hear the springs when you rolled or got up. Again, remember this is an expensive hotel to stay in.
The corridor fire doors had no cushioning to them so they continually banged against walls as people opened them.
We stayed for two nights. The first evening we ate in the secret garden, which had a rather skimpy menu for choice. My son and I had the fish and chips. Good portion size and fish was tasty but they used frozen chips which when fried had the consistency inside of mashed potato. My son and I both left the chips (which is un heard of for us both!). My daughter had the pumpkin gnocchi which she was very dissapointed with. Only a tiny serving and there was hardly any pumpkin with lumps of potato. The waiter appeared inexperienced. Although the restaurant was not busy (8pm), it took until 8.20 to get our drinks and then nearly 9pm to get the food. All the staff looked dejected - it just wasn't enjoyable. Again, please remember the menu is not cheap - £13 for fish and chips - I expect freshly made chips. So for the four of us the bill was nearly 70 pounds with just pop and water! When I complained to the waiter, he went away and came back rather quickly and said that the manager had removed the price of the gnocchi and one of the fish and chip meals from the bill. I paid it but thought it was sad that the manager ( who I could see in the blue shirt as against the black shirts of the waiters) did not even come over to hear the feedback. I got the impression that we were just placated and that was it.
The buffet breakfast.
The buffet breakfast served before the park opens each morning was ok. I remember every other time we had been, it was top quality with fresh fruit etc. the cooked breakfast items looked cheap and tasted cheap (sausages and black pudding especially). The scrambled egg was not made with fresh eggs and was awful. The fried eggs were left out too long and were horrible after some time under the heat lamps.
There was only two tea and coffee machines - Only one basic coffee and tea bags which you had to put in and remove at the machine. A bit of a scrum too.
My kids hardly wanted to go for breakfast the second morning, instead they just wanted to sleep for longer. Unheard of again!!
The second night we ate at the buffet dinner in the splash landings hotel. 20 a head, but well worth it. Plenty of nice food and the waiter (Simon) couldn't have been better - he was well tipped - enjoyed that evening.
The theme park.
Nemesis, air, oblivion and Rita - love those rides - haven't got tired of them over the years. We didn't bother with the new ride - sub terra - very mixed reports from people online - and looong queues. The park needs a BIG LONG ride or two. As good as the rides are, I feel the park could do with a really long ride to keep up with the top rides from around the world. after an hours wait its always a little dissapointing to be over in thirty seconds. Oh and my wife who doesn't go on the rides commented that this time there was no live entertainment at the park. She loved the previous years acts - again it feels as if it's a little tired.
Enjoyed the water park though - the kids still love that.
To sum up, we came away From the place really dissapointed. I would definatley say look for nice hotel accommodation elsewhere wore you pay good money at the towers hotel. We had stayed at the splash landings hotel before and we really missed it. Hopefully it's better than the towers hotel. Can't be more tired.
