“Hard to fault for family fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Just got back from a fantastic couple of days in this resort - and it really does have a 'resort' feel. Booked the February Half Term offer which is great value for money, even if you stay in resort to use the restaurants and bars.

It was very, very busy, but we had a great time and our two year old had such fun. The place really is catered towards little people - even plastic bowls are provided in Flambo's which saves panicky mummies and daddies hovering over little ones every second they are eating.

I feel a few of the previous reviews are a little unfair. The rooms were a lot bigger than I expected, I've spent a fortnight in smaller! And the bunk beds are definately not that small as I ended up sleeping in it after our little boy decided to get in with us (the main bed is only a double and is a squeeze for three). However the bathroom - although perfectly clean - needed a bit of tlc around fixtures and fittings.

Staff were great, facilities great, food good. A little too busy at breakfast but nothing to be too grumpy about.

Stop making excuses and give it a go!

Room Tip: Make sure you book a table for dinner as the hotel was vey full. Guests were being turned away from...

Just got back from staying here on Friday 8th feb. we had booked a £99 room and day in waterpark. I got there for 3pm after getting girls from school early as a treat but to use the waterpark on this day it's an extra £5 per person which I think is a little unfair. Went back to rooms changed and went to flambos for tea 2 adults at £19 each I should if fibbed and said my daughter was under 7 and 3 as the meals come down from 7.95 to £2.95 which is about the amount both of mine ate!! Food alot better than 3 years ago our last visit- went to children's disco although couldn't get a seat so went back to room. Astonished at the noise and the people shouting back to there rooms from 11-12pm with kids!! Rooms clean and tidy no problems. Breakfast is a buffet style enough to please everyone- another go in the waterpark annoyingly lockers are 2 £1 coins! It's was absolutely packed to the point we left at 12pm as it was so busy-

All in all cost us £180 with room, food extra afternoon in pool - wouldn't rush back rather go my local swimming baths, posh meal at home and sleep in my own bed!!!

We stayed here Feb 2013 with our 3 year old daughter for one night. The hotel is great for kids, lots for them to do, really colourful & exciting displays & good kids entertainment. Our daughter loved the pirate magic show, and I have to admit that myself & the husband were also impressed! Lol

The food was rubbish to be honest. Processed & catered for the masses. Rather than pay £20 a head for tea we went to the Blacksmiths Arms in Alton which served lovely homemade food for a fraction of the price and it is a 5 min drive from the park.

The room looked lovely from a kids point of view but wasn't great in our eyes. Uncomfortable beds, tired furnishings & bathroom. I have stayed in better Premier Inns! It was ok to put your head down for a night but that's about it. I must say though that it was very clean & the cleaning staff were very friendly.

The entertainment finished at 9:30pm which meant we went to bed early. For kids the hotel looks amazing in their eyes, it really does seem magical. There is a lovely big fish tank in reception, the entertainers were really good with the little ones & they don't know where to start in the water park.

Glad we went as our daughter thought it was brilliant so t makes it worthwhile!

Visited in February on the Caribbean Night. The package for 4 included room, breakfast, entry into the water park and entry into the sealife centre which is part of the park all for £99! Excellent value.

However I would warn anyone who hates smoking as much as I do that you'll definitely smell it here! I had no idea so many people still smoked and regrettably instead of banning it completely from the hotel they cater for it with a huge outdoor/covered areas right next to the bar where the kids entertainment was.

The double doors leading to the smoking area were left open constantly so the smell was probably worse inside than out and several times when sitting in the bar the wind would blow and the smell of old fag ash would fill the room. Absolutely disgusting.

Furthermore the bedrooms showed evidence of people smoking in them despite them not being allowed to. Fag ash burns on the radiator and windowsill and the floor area outside our room strewn with dog ends! The smell of which would emanate the room.

This is a 'family' hotel with small children and smoking should be banned

The beach room theme decor and busy carpet cleverly disguises the overall worn and outdated appearance of the room. Come to that the whole hotel pretty much like that. It needs redoing!

We ate at Flambos which at £19.99 ph was, given the choice available, pretty good value although I'm pretty sure the white battered fish was catfish (pangasius) and not as most would of assumed Cod. Horrible muddy tasting river fish!

The children's entertainment was OK but to be honest was lacking. The main event didn't start until 6pm with a very mediocre magician and some dancing but with the park being closed we struggled to find anything for our kids to do once we'd finished swimming. One tiny Lego area does not constitute adequate play area for a hotel which is based on entertainment.

Breakfast was an all you can eat affair and was excellent and plentiful. We arranged for a birthday cake to be presented for our children and I was overwhelmed by the excellent way the staff did this. Many thanks

Overall at £99 you can't really complain which I know I have but the hope is someone might be listening and improve other guests experience.

We stayed in the Splash Landings Hotel on January the 25th 2013 which fell on a Friday. I made the booking over the internet but as I wanted to swap hotel at the last minute I did have to ring. The number they advertise on their site costs you 10p a minute, which I think is outrageous considering we have to pay for the privilege to book with them, but this is Alton Towers and if they can charge, they will charge, and they DO. You can find a land line number if you look carefully, but to save you time its 01538 704600! :)
The hotel is beautiful, the reception is so inviting and magical, splash landings is definitely aimed at children and they will not be disappointed upon arrival. There is a bar and disco area and this all overlooks the water park which is lit up in the evening after it has closed.
We arrived on the Friday at around 3.40pm, straight from the school run, we checked in easily enough and the staff we lovely! We were booked into the Pirate Themed Room in the Splash Landings Hotel. The room is beautiful, fantastic attention to detail, a beautiful wooden bed, cabin beds, sound effects and a super ghostly twist when you turn the switch by the mirror. There are clues to open the treasure chest with a little surprise inside and there is also an x-box in the room,(themed only) but make sure you ask for the controllers at the check in desk, we only knew because of reading others reviews on here prior to arriving.
Its a shame the themed rooms are so expensive as you only really get 19 hours stay, its check in after 3pm and out at 10am the next day! Our waterpark tickets were included, and so was breakfast the next day, so depending on when you decide to stay it can equate to good value if you choose in a standard room. It was also the Hello Kitty weekend in our hotel and Pirate Weekend in the connecting Alton Towers hotel ( a short walk through a walkway passing through the water park). So our hotel was full of tiny girls dressed to party, and loving the photo ops with kitty herself, and the other full of small boys with swords and real life pirates wandering around and interacting! Feel free to flit between hotels and have a good look around. Notice the carpet as it changes from beach theme to explorer as you go!
Food as you can imagine is very expensive, Flambo's feast works out at £20 an adult and £12 a child for the evening meal, all you can eat buffet style food. Soft drinks and now included thank goodness, so there are no hidden extras unless you buy alcohol. The food is fine and much nicer than we expected, curries, Mexican, roast dinners, salads and starters, steaks and chicken etc. Its a bit of a free for all but to be honest, with small children its a dream come true. just very expensive as a family. My husband says he went' around the world' food ,and certainly got his monies worth! :). The desserts are limited choice but nice enough, chocolate fudge cake, ices creams and the obligatory chocolate fountain! Make sure you book on line before you visit, you can do this on line without phoning, otherwise you may not get to eat as its very very busy. You can of course use the restaurants in Alton Towers too, its the side dishes add ons and drinks that bump up the price to at least £70 for a family of four. Plus the cheapest bottle of wine is £14 as you would expect.
Take snacks and drinks with you to eat in your room, you will not regret that decision!
Good advice is get up early for breakfast as this is SUPER busy after 9am. Ideally get in there before 8am if possible. Breakfast is the usual buffet bun fight with the typical choice of hot and cold food, the staff are lovely there too.j
The water park was crazy busy too as hundreds of people tend to arrive on the Saturday as opposed to the Friday so the place was fit to bursting. The check in queues on the Saturday were massive and the place was teeming. It is a brillian,t and you will notice its an attraction for all ages young and old. The atmosphere is pleasant and safe, there are toddler areas, shallow areas and mega fast shoots and slides. Alongside this there is a wonderful outdoor section of slides and pools including hot tubs to sit and heat up in!
Within the hotels there are small arcades in the hotel and lots of 'grabbing machines' hardly any toys to grab and a waste of cash, but we are as guilty as the next parent of shelling out for them.
My advice, don't tell the children where you are going to make it an extra big surprise. take drinks and snacks in abundance to save pounds. take time to walk over to The Alton Towers hotel for variation and check out the reception there. Get up early for a stress free breakfast and therefore you will be in the water park first too. Take advantage of getting on the big water slides first without queuing. Enjoy every minute cause its costs a lot but with careful planning you can keep spending down to a minimum.

Room Tip: Ask for a particular view or room number or floor in your comments when booking. Its always worth th...

We found an offer on the Alton Towers restaurant that included one nights bed and breakfast in the hotel and one day in the waterpark.

We arrived early and the friendly receptionist allowed us into the room immediately. The children were amazed by the hotel from the moment we arrived. The fountains, fish tanks, colouring tables and toys make this a magical place for a 2 year old.

The room is fairly basic but not a bad size and the beds were very comfortable. The little fish shaped bubble baths were a lovely touch.

The waterpark is absolutely amazing and i was very impressed by how much there was to do for very young children and babies. They even supply float vests for the children. My son can't stop talking about the huge bucket of water that regularly empty it's contents over the whole park. The pool area is warm and mostly inside so we could happily sit out with the baby while he slept without having to get dressed. We were in the pool over 3 hours per day and never got bored.

We ate dinner and breakfast in Flambo's restaurant which was undeniably good value. It was £19.95 per adult including 3 courses of the international buffet and fizzy drinks. We also ordered a bottle of wine which was very reasonably priced. It is very very loud in there and there are a lot of children leaping around while you are trying to eat and once the magician started on the floor above it was quite headachey. You do have the option of eaten in the Restaurant in the other hotel which i would definitely advise for a couple dining alone.

After dinner we walked over the walkway (which for our 2 year old was an adventure in itself). We had a drink in the Dragon Bar and watched the live vocalist who was excellent and just what was needed in the setting, He sung well known songs and provided a relaxed atmosphere but still allowed for conversation.

Overall we were far more impressed than we expected to be and would definitely visit again.

Just returned from a one night stay at Splash Landings hotel. On arrival on a busy Friday evening, we queued for approx 15 minutes before we could check in. Our room was clean and comfortable. One double bed and a set of bunk beds.

We ate at Flambo’s Exotic for dinner and we had made a dinner reservation for 6:45pm. I would recommend you do make a reservation as other people we spoke to could not get a seating until much later in the evening.

The food was of excellent choice and good quality. The price was £20 per adult and £11 per child. There was roast dinner, curry, fajita, roast chicken, steak, chips, salad, battered fish, king prawns, soup etc. The soft drinks of coke, Fanta etc were included in the price and were refillable. The chocolate fountains really were our children’s favourite!

The staff in the restaurant were mostly very friendly and helpful. Our server Altar, was lovely and also the guy who carved the roast meats was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the old guy serving ice cream, was particularly miserable. Even when I asked if he was ok when he didn’t smile back, I still didn’t get an acknowledgment or even eye contact, simply a grunt.

This was the only staff member we encountered at Splash Landings that was less than exceptional. I can see that customer service is high on the list of priorities, as all other staff were so inquisitive, friendly and helpful. From the shop assistants to housekeeping and even walking down corridors, it was so nice to see staff saying hello and asking if you were having a nice time. This is the first time outside of visiting the USA that we have encountered such friendly staff.

My main recommendation to the hotel would be to install some soft close linings for the rooms doors. For the life of me I will never understand why some guests think they are the only one’s staying at the hotel and think that shouting and running down corridors at gone 10pm then slamming doors and letting their kids scream is acceptable is beyond me!

Breakfast the following day was plentiful. Toast, fruit juices, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, and the usual sausage, bacon, black pudding, fried, scramble egg, tomato and hash browns.

Unfortunately, the express check-out service via the room TV did not work (room 1453) but thankfully the queue on Saturday morning was not as bad as check-in so it was swift.

After putting our bags in the car, we then headed back to the water park. It did not disappoint. There was plenty of fun to be had, my only niggle is that on the park map it shows toddler slides but there were actually none inside. The outdoor slide did not open until nearly lunch time due to the snow, but the outdoor hot tub was a delight to sit in with the snow so thick on the ground!

All in all a really good place for families, we will surely keep a look out for good deals to return soon.
