“A good start to the New Year 2012”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2012

Another superb visit to Arden Cottage - it's spending a bit of time with friends! We went down just after New Year - we've stayed before and we always get a terrific welcome - roaring logs in the fire, brilliant food, lovely home-from-home aga. When I had something wrong with my phone they lent me theirs. They know all the best places to visit as well. The bedrooms are so comfortable and pretty including the magazines and a radio by the bed and lovely smellies in the en suite facilities. Nothing is portioned out because they are too generous! You take as much of anything that you want! They even welcome dogs for holidays while their owners are away and they keep coming back for more (and so will we). Big thank you to Paul and Jane. We had a great time.

Room Tip: Our rooms have always been warm and comfortable. (They don't have many so my tip is to book ear...

We stayed at this B&B between christmas and new year in the family suite, myself, husband, 2 teenagers and Frank the dog. The owners greeted us with a welcome cup of tea and homemade mince pies. They dont have a dog themselves but were looking after a dog and my own dog was made to feel very welcome - it really was easy to just let yourself in as if it were your home. So many places accept dogs but you feel like you have to have them on the lead all the time - not so here - and yet the place was spotless. It is very old and my daughter was not keen at first on the floorboards but we all slept like logs in the very comfortable beds. It is in a village which has a good pub where we ate both nights and had good food - very reasonably priced and a spar shop, butchers, bank, postoffice etc. We went on several walks and played trivial pursuit in their guest lounge - all in all an enjoyable stay and exclellent breakfasts too! (I have got back, bought Greek yoghurt with honey and looked at recipes for granola!)

Jane & Paul could not be more friendly and welcoming. We have only known them a short time however we count them as friends. We have stayed at Arden 3 times and both our grown up daughters have also stayed with their families and we all love it. The cottage is superb to say the least, the breakfast is 'to die for' however it is the extra little touches that set Arden apart from all other comparisons. We recommend this house unreservedly to everyone

This beautiful old cottage was so cosy and comfortable for us and our dalmatian who was made to feel very welcome. Lots of lovely touches like dog treats, magazines and hot chocolate in our room. delicious welcome cake and breakfast! I can't wait to be treated to another stay there.

We stayed at Arden Cottage during the half term week in October.

Having 2 small children and a puppy, it has become clear to us, over the 4 months we have had the pooch, that the standard of accommodation we can come to expect, leaves a lot to be desired. At least that is what conclusions we had come to after the last 2 places we had stayed at. It was therefore, very reassuring to spend a couple of relaxing days at Arden Cottage.

Our puppy was very welcome and we weren't made to feel uncomfortable about having him around and letting him run about in the garden. In addition, our 2 noisy boys were also made to feel very at home - one didn't actually want to leave!

We stayed in the double and single rooms with the shared shower room. This is a perfect little annex for a family - with the choice of putting a put up bed in the corridor or in the single room. We opted for the former, which meant we all had our own space, but could see/hear the children during the night. There is a door at the end of the corridor, which meant we were completely shut off from the rest of the house.

All in all it was a very enjoyable stay. Very comfortable and clean rooms, great breakfasts and friendly, hospitable hosts.

Thank you Jane and Paul, for restoring our faith in 'dog friendly' accommodation. And Buster says thanks too, as he might now get to travel with us again as a result!

Room Tip: Don't shy away from taking children and having the double and single rooms together as a mini ap...

This was our second stay at Arden Cottage and I'm very sure it won't be the last! The cottage is a perfect picture postcard, and the ideal location for exploring. Jane and Paul think of everything - from putting the kettle on as we drove through the gates, to leaving dog biscuits for our greyhound in the room. Breakfast is a definite high spot - loads of local produce cooked to order, served with a smile and Whortleberry jam! YUM! The information about the area is a real bonus - especially the list of dog friendly pubs.

If you are considering a few days away and want to feel spoiled then this is definitely the place to go!

Room Tip: I don't think it would matter!

We have just visited Arden Cottage for the third time, for three days - you can't have too much of a good thing. Our Cavalier, Bo, was thoroughly spoiled and it's relaxing to know that he is a valued guest too. The whole Arden experience included tea and cake when we arrived, lovely comfortable room with top-notch linen and smellies, and breakfast with granola and fruit as well as bacon, egg and trimmings. Jane and Paul took a lot of trouble to look after us in their splendid home and also recommended a dog-friendly pub where we had more excellent local fare. It's a lovely place to stay in a beautiful part of the country and we'll be back.
