5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

This is a truly lovely country house hotel, a real find. It is elegant, has such beautiful reception rooms - it is almost a shame to go out for the day, as you are missing spending the day in such a wonderful place. All you need is a good book, an Ipod or a newspaper and curl up on one the seats or couches in front of one of the open fires – absolute heaven.

We ate in the restaurant both nights, trying a different tasting menus each time. The food was faultless, the best I have ever tasted. If you stay here without eating in the restaurant, you are really missing out on something special.

Staff are very friendly and engaging - no pretences here. Just can’t wait to go back.

Room Tip: Make sure you eat in the restaurant and try a tasting menu.

We spent two nights in October and have fallen in love with this place.

As other reviewers say, the Palladian house is simply stunning. They will provide a history of the house and descriptions of the fabulous art and furniture in each room. Even our lovely large bedroom had oil paintings and antiques (as well as a King-sized bed, complimentary mineral water, coffee etc) and a great view - not another house in sight.

You can visit an 'original' Edwardian kitchen in the basement and there is a full sized billiard room. There are plenty of rooms in which to sit, very comfortably, looking out over the gorgeous grounds, with log fires to keep you warm and excellent service for any drinks required. Although it is grand, it also friendly and in no way pretentious. As there are only about 20 rooms it never felt crowded. We spent hours just relaxing and it was a real effort to drag ourselves away from the place to visit beautiful Wells close by.

There is free Wi Fi.

The service was, at all times, superb and, we felt, genuinely welcoming. The attention to detail was very impressive (particularly for my dietary requirement to be gluten-free e.g. telling me all the petits fours they brought with the coffee were gluten free!)

The food was gorgeous and, although the portions were not huge, by the time we had finished the five course tasting menu (included in our package) we were completely full. We were so impressed with the meal that we ate there again the following night, despite the price. It was worth it and certainly better than the Michelin 'one star' meal we had had in London a month or two before. Breakfasts were excellent.

The grounds are lovely with a self contained cottage, a river and a kitchen garden where we saw the most enormous pumpkin.

We felt truly spoilt and indulged and the ambience and beauty of the place lingers in our memory. It is superior to five star hotels we have stayed in. We intend to return when time and budget allows!

For completeness, I should mention that it has no lift so if stairs are a problem it might not be the place to stay and that we had a Superior Room ('Green' - on the first floor overlooking the front of the Hotel).

Room Tip: Four-poster beds are obviously not King Size if that is important to you.

My fiance treated me to a weekend here to celebrate our ten years together and I can quite truthfully say it was by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in; in fact probably the best weekend of my life.More of a gorgeous country house than a hotel, Ston Easton Park has got everything exactly right, from the quietly attentive perfectly trained staff, to the beautiful rooms furnished with original art works and antiques. The atmosphere was quiet, restful and totally relaxing and the friendly presence of Oscar the Spaniel gave the feel of staying in a (very wealthy) friends home rather than a faceless hotel. Indeed, he took us for a walk round the grounds before we left!
Our room,South East, was absolutely beautiful with fabulous views across the grounds and magnificent high ceilings, It also had the most comfortable four poster bed I have ever slept in. I sleep poorly even at home but was totally rested and refreshed after the best sleep in years. Although this was our first visit to Somerset, we felt absolutely no inclination at all to leave the hotel to go sightseeing - in fact for the first time ever we sat in the sumptuous lounge for most of the day, reading the newspapers and relaxing quietly in a way we would never normally do. At the risk of overdoing the superlatives, I must also say that our meal that evening was without doubt the finest we have ever eaten, perfectly prepared food of superb freshness and quality and presented so beautifully that each course was a work of art in itself. Our waiter recommended a perfect wine and we were served with great courtesy and unobtrusive attention by all the staff.
Ston Easton Park is truly a gem - I only wish I had personally thanked everyone who made our stay such a wonderful experience, and I'm already very much looking forward to visiting again.

I stayed at Ston Easton once before, in 1986, based on the fact that the now defunct Egon Ronay Lucas Guide (1985) gave Ston Easton the highest rating of any property in England outside of London. It was ranked above such properties as Le Manoir Aux Quat' Saisons, Royal Crescent, Chewton Glen, and all others. Our stay then was wonderful in every respect. With that fine memory in mind, I booked again for October, 2013.

When we arrived on this visit, I could not help but notice that the long gravel drive is severely rutted, giving a poor first impression, not to mention a bouncy drive. The 18th century building is still magnificent and the public rooms are well maintained. Much of the rest of the property seems in need of attention. Our room (Repton) was very small and appeared tired and frayed. The bathroom was fine, except that the fabric on the window had disintegrated and there were signs of mildew or mold around the sink and shower.

The food was outstanding, and a pleasant surprise. The dining room is still a beautiful venue. The service was well intentioned, but not very professional. In fact, the staff in general were all very nice and wanted you to feel comfortable, but they just lacked something. They were not well trained and seemed lost in response to most questions, such as local areas to visit, WiFi, etc.

If I had not visited Ston Easton in 1986, and had not spent all of the years in between searching out and visiting country house hotels in England, I may not have been this disappointed. This is a wonderful property, well located for visiting Bath, Wells and many other wonderful cities and villages. It seems to be in need of management and capital. I sincerely hope they get both and that Ston Easton can once again reign supreme.

Room Tip: Make sure that there is adequate size for you and your luggage. The state rooms are probably wonder...

Having eaten in Michelin starred retaurants, it is beyond me why Ston Easton Park does not have one. It is the best food we have ever had without doubt. The grounds are spectacular and the room quiet and comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly. Although relatively expensive, it is well worth a visit for a specal occasion.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking the kitchen yard. All other have magnificent views.

Attended a wedding recently with the reception at the hotel and we stayed over. Everything on the day was so well organised - the drinks reception and canapes were first class. The wedding breakfast was top hole! and the service very effecient and unobtrusive. Our room ( a 4 poster) was very comfortable, A good size and the bathroom well appointed. Overall we were very impressed and will return one day.

We always receive a very warm welcome upon our arrival at this lovely old country house even if we are just there to dine. The staff are friendly and relaxed but very attentitive. The house is full of lovely antiques and has a fabulous original kitchen in the basement. It is well worth taking a leisurely stroll around the extensive grounds if you are able. They have an extensive wine list and the restaurant menu is pricey but you will not be disappointed! Afternoon tea is also delightful. Looking forward to our next visit. Ideally suited for visiting Wells, Bath or Bristol,
