“Our views on Tanglewood - Porlock”

I have been going to Porlock for over 40 years and in recent times have stayed in Tanglewood with my wife 6 times (plus daughters and their husbands on 2 seperate occasions) As a family when our children were much younger we used to visit Porlock every year and have stayed in a number of self catering units.
For most of the 40 years I didn't realise that the road in which Tanglewood is located actually existed. That says something about the peace and tranquility which one can experience whilst staying there
Each time we have been in Tanglewood it has been out of season (February and October) and the house is very warm and cosy. We have been there in the rain, wind, snow and fog (Sun also!!) and never felt that the heating wasn't good enough - which can be an issue with some properties
The small conservatory is bright and ideal for reading during the day. Having a glass roof enables full appreciation and benefit to be obtained from the views of the trees around the wooded combe in which Tanglewood sits
The walk into the village is not a problem for us and in fact provides a useful and semi compulsory excercise routine on those lazy days.
Some may find the access road not as smooth as they would like but rest assured I am fussy about how my car is treated and taken in the appropriate gear at the appropriate speed it presents no problem at all and the locals who live in the same road are up and down to the village regularly.
I think having been back to Tanglewood six times really says more than all the words I could write - if we didnt like it we wouldnt have gone back.

“absolutely lovely, will be back”

We were looking for accommodation in the Porlock area and were so very lucky to have found 'Tanglewood'. The situation is lovely (although the last 100 yards of the 'road' up to the property is not tramac'd and so a little uneven - the car made it easily enough, just a little bumpy!). Glynis & Kevin couldn't have been more helpful (and the cream tea welcome pack went down very well). The house is well detached, surrounded by its large, well kept gardens and even has a stream at the bottom of the garden (fenced off). The pictures don't do the property justice, the proprety is light and airy and everything is very comfortable and of good quality. If you're looking for a lovely cottage, with the moors, miles of walking and fantastic views up the hill and Porlock down the hill, Tanglewood is for you. We'll certainly be returning soon.

Liked best: Situation and 'warmth' of the cottage
Liked least: Opening the gate to the drive (had to be kept shut overnight to keep the deer out of the garden)
