“Lovely cosy and welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

A truly must visit. A Family run hotel in the centre of Porlock, We were made very welcome and shown to our room which was spotless. We had a few drinks in the bar before dinner, the Menu had a good varied choice to choose from After lunch we relaxed on the comfy sofa's with a huge choice of books to choose from if you wish from the book shelves.
Breakfast was full English and cooked to perfection with plenty of it, After a walk to the weir we returned for a Turkey roast with all the trimmings and it was delicious. The staff were all very polite, you were not rushed and nothing was to much trouble. This is this family's first season at the Castle and I wish them all the best and Yes we shall be returning x

Last minute booking for my husband and son. Really warm friendly welcome on arrival.
Lovely clean spacious room with very comfortable double and single beds.
Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
Bar is quirky and interesting with shelves full of books there to borrow.
The staff who incidentally are all one family are so accommodating . Nothing is too much trouble and are sure to make a huge success of their venture.

A lovely place to stop for a drink but I wouldn't recommend the food. We had a dinner there and were disappointed as we expected it to be freshly prepared. OK if you like microwaved frozen dinners but I like something more imaginative when I eat out.
However, the staff were very friendly and eager to please and the way the interior had been decked out gave it a homely feel.

Stayed overnight in Porlock Weir yesterday and fell foul of the Out of Season hours ! Between 2030 and 2130 we trawled the village looking for hot food but not even a takeaway was available. We were saved by the friendly staff at The Castle who re-opened the kitchen after 2130 and served up two delicious chillis . The drinks and food were very reasonably priced and the new management were lovely. They deserve to succeed. All the very best !

Driving to Somerset on the off-chance, we were distracted by the charms of both Porlock and the Castle Hotel. The hotel has been recently taken over by young couple, Ben and Leanne, who couldn't have been sweeter or more attentive, despite being new to the business. The guest bedrooms were spacious, newly refurbished and with excellent en-suite bathrooms, while downstairs was a long, chill-out bar and eating area, shelved from floor to ceiling with books, and with cosy alcove areas for reading, drinking or both. The new managers are still setting up everything they want the hotel to be, but they deserve every chance to succeed. We were hugely pleased with the place.
