Stayed here for a three night break, Sun through to Tuesday. Upon arriving we were informed we were the only guests that night, and that the restaurant wasn't open Monday and Tuesday evenings....fair enough, the hotel website had already informed us of this. But we came downstairs hoping to try one of Mr Millers famous gins...to find the place in complete darkness, and no one around ! Strange, we thought, but wandered around and found refreshment elsewhere.
Monday, and after a lovely breakfast, we headed out for the day. Upon returning late afternoon, we returned to a passable impression of the Marie Celeste....no one around ! We dressed to go out for dinner, and thought to have a drink at the bar before heading out...guess what ?... the whole place was in total darkness....and STILL, no one around...again !!! We crept out through the darkness like people doing a moonlight flit....weird !!
Tuesday, and we were feeling a bit miffed....after another good breakfast we mentioned the lack of bar facilities...and lighting...and people around...and were told that as it was Tuesday the Hotel would be fully operational..? After another day taking in the lovely area, we returned...and ...lo...people !... lighting !....an open bar ! We had booked a table for the evening, and wandered down for the elusive pre prandial...and wow what a difference ! The beautifully furnished lounge which had hitherto been in darkness, was buzzing with people and had great ambience....we enjoyed a wonderful meal in the restaurant, with efficient, friendly service....we couldn't beleive we were in the same place !!!
So, to sum up,a wonderful place with gorgeous rooms, a wonderful lounge bar, beautifully stylised as you would expect from an authority on antiques, and an excellent restaurant...but only when fully operational !!!! Come on Millers, you are either open...or closed.....and if you are open and you take someone's booking, then surely they should be able, at the very least, to get a drink at the bar.....and not have to creep around in the dark !!!!
