My wife and I took a two night getaway Monday and Tuesday just gone. We arrived mid afternoon on the Monday and were shown to our room (No2), first impressions were that it was spacious, light and clean. The only negative from the whole stay was the bathroom; it was in desperate need of updating. Needless to say the owners are aware of this as they have a sign in the bathroom stating as much. One other note; I call it a bathroom even though it has no bath, there is a shower, basin and toilet.
OK, negatives over; we were aware that the bar was closed on Monday evenings although unaware that all the lights were to be turned off. So given the fact that I had purchased a nice bottle of red from the bar and sat down in front of the log fire at 17:55 I was apprehensive as to the barmans next move. To my surprise he realised that we were in no rush, apologised for having to turn all the lights off and brought us some candles to light up the area. The following morning our breakfast consisted of a choice of juices, fruit, cereal, full English or Kippers. All good quality.
We booked and evening meal and without repeating previous reviews, the food was great.
If you go onto their web site you will see the bar and lounge area; believe me it is as comfy as it looks. The one thing that you cannot tell through any website is the level of service a place offers. These guys had great service in bucket loads; you can't train instinct or personality, you have to hire the right people. Not sure who did the hiring here, whoever it was, good job done!!
Ask if they have a room with new bathroom facilities.
