“Brilliant Xmas B & B stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

We stayed at Rose Bank for 2 nights over the Xmas period as we were visiting family in the area. We were made to feel extremely welcome and our hosts went to considerable effort to ensure our stay was comfortable. The room was warm and welcoming and breakfast was very good indeed. We would certainly have no hesitation in recommending Rose Bank.

Room Tip: Our room was in the front of the house but very good double glazing ensured it was peaceful even tho...

John and Elaine were very welcoming, and the house is lovely..homely and warm. They went to great lengths to accommodate my food intolerances and made me a special soup for dinner which was excellent! Breakfast was outstanding; the finest ingredients cooked to perfection, and dinner was very good too. It's a cosy set up and you are very much in someone's home, John was very chatty and friendly, whilst Elaine was largely in the kitchen during mealtimes. Beds were super comfy, linen crisp and clean and everything you need should you forget anything!

There was no wifi connection after 10pm but other than that, no issues whatsoever! Highly recommend.

As for Porlock; we had planned an exploration trip to Lynmouth, Ilfracombe etc and snow prevented us from getting there so we were trapped in the village (unless we wanted to go east which we didn't want to do) and as it was out of season, it was very quiet! Thankfully there are a few pubs and Millers bistro had hundreds of free books, decent gin, gorgeous decor and open fires so we were very happy! The village is quaint and old, but a looooong walk to the sea.

A pretty, low key village to explore that part of Somerset and north Devon, even out of season (unless it snows, then Porlock Hill gets closed). I would recommend it as a romantic weekend away, or a base for walking and exploring holidays.

We stayed at Rose Bank for two nights to visit family in Porlock. It is well situated in the village high street, and we were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. The room had everything we would need for a very comfortable stay and the open fire in the dinning room was warm and cosy to sit around. We had breakfast and evening meal both of which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We can only reiterate all that everyone else states: at Rosebank you get a lovely warm welcome, cosy accommodation and delicious food made with fine, local ingredients. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were made to feel relaxed and at home. Our hosts John and Elaine have considered carefully and provided all the little touches that contribute to making such a difference to one's stay. We have returned home relaxed and invigorated after our break. Porlock itself is a great base for exploring the north coast and Exmoor, or for concentrating on local walks and rambles; take your pick.

This is the first time that my husband and I have stayed here. We arrived on New Years day for 2 nights. I must say that it is a superb location, the guest house was looking magical with its tastefull festive decorations. The house was lovely, food fantastic, room very comfortable, clean and John and Elaine were adorable hosts where nothing was too much trouble.
Many thanks for an enjoyable stay and would definetly recommend and will stay again

Room Tip: I am sure that any room will not disappoint

Once again, another great stay at Rosebank. John and Elaine really go out of their way to look after you.
My room was changed, but I got an even better one than I had been planning on.

Absolutely problem free, if you want a restful and enjoyable stay, then this is the place.

This was our 3rd visit this year, really says it all !. Their secret is you always want to go back.
During our 4 night stay they were fully booked,so I jeopardize possible disappointment by writing this review for my future bookings.
Comfortable beds, every possible need catered for,you look forward to your next shower( an experience ). John and Elaine really have done their homework researching customer's needs.
Elaine's breakfast is still the only reason for leaving your bed has now been enhanced by 3 culinary delights( I am led to believe John had some input ) but Elaine has to produce the final result on the plate.
Tomato Tango---Old English Sweet Piggy Blanket---Eggs Benedict Wow ! it is very easy to skip lunch !
If you need to switch off, have a few days break, with the delights of Exmoor, enjoy the comforts that you are used to, then visit Rose Bank,I promise you will not be disappointed----- but hold it make sure I can have a booking first.
