“Good Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

We stayed here for one night as we were attending a wedding nearby. We arrived earlier than we expected, and didn't expect our room to be ready. They set up a table outside for us, so we could sit in the sun and have a coffee. Our room was ready before normal check in time, which was great. The staff here are terrific, so helpful and friendly. We had lunch in the bar, which was delicious. Rooms are maybe a little dated, but spotlessly clean.Very good breakfast, served quickly, with a good choice. I would certainly stay again.

I found this hotel when travelling back from Cornwall. I had become tired after being in some very heavy traffic and decided after driving for 2 hours at 10m.p.h, I would stop at the next hotel I saw after coming off the motorway. The Walnut Tree was a great find and I will look forward to staying there again in the future, maybe for a few days. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and the food and service of the highest standard. Very friendly staff and would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely place to stay in the area.

Spent 2 nights at The Walnut Tree last weekend. We arrived late so called them to let them know we probably wouldn't get there until 10pm,the receptionist said that was no problem and would we like them to have some sandwiches ready for us, how thoughtful. We had an executive room which was spacious, bright and very clean if a little dated. Breakfast was included . The staff in the dining room deserve a special mention, particularly a middle aged lady whose name I didn't get , but she waited on our table, she was like a very friendly and efficient Mum , making sure we had everything we needed. It was nice to get a big china teapot instead of a cup or mug with a tea bag. Breakfast was delicious there was the normal array of yoghurt and fruit and then the full English or haddock with poached egg, which was delicious.
Would really recommend trying it,good as a base if you are out sight seeing or attending a wedding in one of the nearby stately homes or Huntsfield Organic Farm

Room Tip: Can't comment on all of the rooms but the executive rooms were be good

I made an on line booking at this hotel using booking.com for a Saturday night only in November. The booking was processed and confirmed. I later received an email from the hotel advising that they had a weekend event and were only accepting bookings for two nights at a special price. the site I had used should not have taken the booking.
It did and the fault was not mine. They had a room if I wanted two nights but i did not want two nights. They have cancelled my booking and it appears that I can't do much about it. Apparently Hotels can get away with treating you like this. So be warned, making a booking is no guarantee of a room at this hotel.

We have not stayed here (we only live five miles away) but frequently eat here on weekends and at Christmas time. It is well run, with friendly staff and the food is just that little bit special and not expensive. The menu is good with a rounded wine list and if your looking to eat/stay somewhere a little bit different then give this a try. A word of caution - eat in the main restaurant NOT in the bistro. The bistro is just a little bit too basic and lacks atmosphere.

We were impressed with this hotel. Inside there was an impression of quality and a good maintenance of standards. The staff were all most obliging. Dinner was excellent, although breakfast was not up to quite the same high standard. Our room was large and very well furnished. Prices were though definitely of a hotel range.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights when going to a wedding close by. We got there very late, nearly missing the cut off time for dinner but the reception staff made sure we would still get served after checking in and we didn't feel rushed either. The room was fine, my only complaint would be that it wasn't very modern or stylish, but it was clean, spacious with a comfortable bed.
There was lots of choice at breakfast, the staff were very helpful and chatty and happy to bring out more tea/toast etc. We had full english both mornings and were very happy.
The receptionist also arranged a taxi to pick us up from the wedding venue and another one after we checked out.
We're not picky when it comes to hotels/BnBs but I do think that they are over priced on the whole and for the price we paid (around £100/night/room) I would have expected the rooms and general decour to be a bit more modernised.
