“A delicious find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

We stayed here overnight this week on our way to Cornwall. Its an old pub with lots of character and money has been spent on bringing the accomodation up to date.
Our room was comfortable with period furniture. I'm not sure about the latest trend of having a bath in the bedroom but it was a comfortable hipbath with loads of hot water. I may be old fashioned but I like my bath in privacy in the bathroom! The bed was very comfortable but as so often happens the room lacked a full length mirror and if the hairdryer was plugged in then you couldn't see into a mirror to dry your hair.
However this wouldn't prevent me from staying there again.
We booked a meal in the attractive dining room and the food was absolutely excellent. There was plenty of choice with an additional specials menu and all was freshly cooked, beautifully presented and very very good indeed. It was as good as anything we have eaten elsewhere.
I would recommend a visit for the food even if you were staying elsewhere.

Had dinner in the Lord Poulet. The menu is great (although unchanging). The ambiance is great, its a lovely building in a lovely setting. Lovely helpful staff and service. Eating there should be a wonderful experience, and should be worth every penny.

The trouble is that the food simply is not good enough. The bread with oil and balsamic vinagar - the bread tasts like supermarket part-bake and the oil does not tase of olives (is it even olive oil?). The whitebait starter was over greasy and very over salty. The Barnsley chop was more like half a Barnsley chop (which may have been fortunate in the circumstance) as it was salty, tough, with no flavour and swiming in a meaningless overpowering sauce. The 3-fried chips were hard and tasted of stale overused fat, the crisp potato was remeniscent of one of Aunt Bessies finest........The cheapest wine on the list at £17/bottle was good. For £30 / person for 2 courses the food simply isnt good enough. Get yourself a good cook Lord Poulet - rejuvenate the menu - buy better starting ingredients and get back to the decent standard you once were.

This Place is set in the county of Somerset! It is in the gorgeous country village called Hinton St George! The food is absolutely awesome, The service is always with a smile and the beer is super cheap! For me it rates better than most high end restaraunts in most major cities i have visited! If you are passing through the west country do yourself a favour and call in for a feed! you will not be disapointed.

I can't recommend this place enough. Fantastic food in a fantastic establishment.
My only small criticism is the lack of atmosphere in the small dining room. Felt somewhat left out. Previous meals had been eaten in the main bar area.

Been coming to the Lord Poulett for food for the last five years - always had fabulous food and the staff are friendly - this time lucky enough to come on a hot summers day and have lunch in the garden - mussels and clams in perry sauce were to die for - will be back very soon

I stay here when I get a chance because the restaurant is so good !

The rooms are very nicely furnished, but many suffer from a lack of en-suite facilities, this is due to the age of the building itself. Like wise the ventilation is also very poor any it can often be very stuffy.

However the quality of the food makes up for any short comings in other areas, just wonderful.

Room Tip: There is one or two ensuite rooms, nab it early !!
