“Very comfortable, clean and friendly, in an excellent setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights, in the Longleat View room, which is in the main house. The bed was extremely comfortable and I slept soundly every night. Sam was very welcoming and friendly and suggested places to eat in the area. He was also quite happy for us to eat a takeaway in the kitchen and there was always fresh milk in the fridge, if we did not want to use the UHT in the bedroom. The Farm is within easy driving distance of many attractions, including Longleat and Wells, both of which we visited.

Breakfast was excellent, especially the full English with delicious eggs from the resident hens.

My husband and I would certainly stay here again.

One tip: take a torch as the 10 minute walk to the pub is down narrow country lanes with no pavement and limited street lighting. However, well worth it as the food and atmosphere is very inviting.

We stayed at the Knoll Hill Farm B&B on Tuesday 8th October. It's set on the outskirts of Trudoxhill, surrounded by farmland & plenty of animals. A very peaceful place allowing the dawn chorus to wake you & giving you the chance to walk to the breakfast room accompanied by the sound of chickens & cattle.
We were in Room 5 overlooking the courtyard. Our welcome from Sam was excellent & everything was explained clearly.
The room contained tea making facilities, TV, ironing board & iron, powerful hair dryer & all the usual toiletries in the ensuite bathroom.
Both the room & bathroom were very clean & the heating (a radiator in both rooms) was very efficient. The shower was amazing, plenty of hot water.
The velux windows in both rooms were a master stroke - plenty of light & privacy.
As for the four-poster bed - well, it was very comfy, the pillows were decent & plentiful, the sheets were soft & the duvet just the right level of Tog for the time of year.
We had the full English Breakfast - plenty of food, very well cooked - and it beat us both!

It was a late booking & was excellent value at £75 for a ensuite room with four-poster bed & a massive breakfast for two.

We only stayed for one night & at the start of October so we can't comment on what a lengthy stay during peak season would be like either in experience or price.
However, as a result of our stay, we would not hesitate to recommend the Knoll Hill Farm B&B to friends & family as it is a truly magical place.

Sam clearly takes pride in his B&B and we found him both personable and helpful. The room was a little disappointing because the only daylight was via a narrow skylight at the apex of the room. It felt somewhat enclosed and dark, frustratingly so as the views around the property were delightful. Still, nearby is the quaint village of Nunney with its medieval castle which is gorgeous and unspoilt. We liked Mells, too, which was just a little further on from Nunney with its brook and handy walks. The breakfast and the breakfast-room were lovely. Be warned though, if you are a veggie, to specify that you don't want bacon involved in your eggs Benedict. On the night, we went to a wedding some three miles away and ordered a taxi. The driver explained that he had to charge a £10 surcharge because of coming from Frome though he only charged us £5 which was kind, adding that all taxi drivers did. As that was a given, we accepted it, but wondered why the outgoing fare was about £15 and the return £27. Still, that has nothing to do with Sam and the property but it is an indication of an aspect of its location. A room with a view would have bumped this review a notch.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window, if there are any.

My husband and I with our 10 year old daughter stayed here for the Bank Holiday weekend to visit Longleat. We stayed in Room 4 in the Courtyard and it was just perfect. The room had everything we needed, was immaculately clean and perfectly located. We were recommended The White Hart for an evening meal, just a 5 minute walk down the road, which was great after a 5.5 hour drive! Breakfast was amazing - a full English breakfast one morning, and the following eggs benedict and scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. On the second morning we also had freshly baked muffins. There was a selection of cereals, toast, crumpets, yogurts, fruit and juices. On the second evening after a very long day at Longleat we actually took a Chinese takeaway back with us and Sam very kindly leant us some crockery and cutlery. Rosie the very friendly horse was the highlight of the accommodation for our daughter. All in all a fabulous place to stay and at just 15/20 minutes from Longleat perfectly located for what we were after.

My husband and myself stayed here over the Bank Holiday Weekend for our wedding anniversary and so that we could go and visit Longleat.
On arrival Sam was very welcoming, check in was a breeze and he gave us some excellent suggestions on places to eat out during our stay.
We stayed in Room 2, which was comfortable, clean and had plenty of space for the two of us.
Knoll hill farm is set in a peaceful countryside location, with it's very own Pony and Sheep :) We found it excellent in terms of location, with easy access to local towns, Longleat and Bath.
We treated ourselves to treatments with Sarah, which we both thoroughly enjoyed and could not recommend enough.
Breakfast was definitely a highlight - Sam's scrambled eggs were delicious, the choice was vast and portion sizes perfect!

My only minor gripe was that each morning, we seemed to run out of hot water, resulting in one of us having a cold shower, but this was more unfortunate than anything!

All in all, we had a fantastic stay. Every staff member went out of their way to make you feel welcome and should we come back to the area, we would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Room 2 was very comfortable and clean, however it is more suitable for families who are also hiring...

Fantastic breakfast, the best I've had at a hotel or B&B. Sam bent over backwards to help us and make our stay a nice one. We ate at The White Hart down the road on his recommendation, which was brilliant. The Place To Stay was well placed for the country walks we had planned and visits to Bath, Glastonbury and Wells, amongst other things. Having the animals nearby was really nice and there were DVDs to borrow. Our room, in the converted barns, was rustic and a very pleasant base for our holiday.
