“George Hotel, Frome UK”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

I was actually visiting Bath, but I stayed in Frome, which is an hour south by bus. The bus station is right outside the hotel for drop off from Bath, and the station going to Bath is right across the street. It's walking distance to the Frome Museum, there is a large outdoor mall with a department store, produce store, and many restaurants and fast food shops, and a tea room up the street. There is a Barclays Bank atm across the street.

The main business of the George is the pub. They rent out rooms, which are clean, with ensuite bathrooms with bath/showers.

The noise from the street is minimal, and the rooms are up from the pub, so there is minimal noise (I had no pub noise in my room at all, but I was up two floors from the lobby). The price is excellent, and even including round trip ( they call it "return" ) fare (6 pounds) to and from Bath, it's still much less than staying in Bath. Plus, you get a nice view of the countryside on the hour trip to Bath and the benefit of a small village atmosphere. It's got a nice atmosphere to it, the staff is friendly and helpful. The carpets are a little old, but they are in the process of renovating as time and revenue allows.

I wish, however, that they'd have told me to check in at the bar, not the locked hotel entrance. the free WiFi is not available in the rooms. You have to go to the pub. That having been said, they had the most comfortable bed I've experienced in the whole of my one month trip.

It's a nice place to stay if you want to drive to Bath or to Longleat, both of which are a short distance away. It's less expensive than the larger cities around there. I didn't have a car on this trip (it was winter, and I wanted to take public transport in order to see the countryside and not have to worry about any snow/rain/ice on the roads). Next trip, I rent a car!

For the benefit of the survey, they didn't have a swimming pool, nor fitness center. I'll forgo those, as I get good exercise walking. The city of Frome (by the way it's pronounced Froom), has a fine walking tour, and you can get info from http://www.askwhy.co.uk/frome/07frometour.php.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back are quieter, but I experienced little street noise. Higher floors, I expect...

Whilst travelling around the country, my partner and I stumbled upon this wonderful hotel. What fabulous value for money! We stayed in one of the luxury four poster rooms with a balcony which was beautifully clean and airy. The ensuite was equally as clean and has a fabulous power shower and good sized bath.
We didn't stay for dinner, however the breakfast was nice, although the bar was rather noisy what with deliveries.
We would definitely stay here again!

Excellent value for money all round, nice room, friendly efficient staff and a brilliant breakfast! The bar food menu is good value. Very well situated for exploring Frome which has some wonderable small shops and the surrounding area of wiltshire and somerset

Large rooms, decent bathroom, good breakfast, close to Bath - overall good value for money. Don't go expecting a 5 star hotel, they are a country B&B and don't pretend to be anything other than that. I was quite happy with my stay - recommended if you are travelling on a budget and don't want to spend a fortune on accommodation. You will get a comfortable room, good food and friendly service.

We met up with friends and stayed here in February 2013. I was very impressed considering the cost. The room was a decent size and the bed was massive and very comfortable. Our friends had the four poster room which was lovely and large. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - they were very friendly and pleasant. The food, both evening meal and breakfast were extremely good and tasty, and plenty of it. I think anyone who complains is expecting a bit too much for their money! Also, we changed our dates at the last minute due to bad weather which was no problem atall with the hotel.

Room was ok. ensuite bathroom was tiny. some of the decor needed to be sorted, peeling wallpaper and damp spots. breakfast was really nice. Parking was odd. Had to go behind the hotel and find the tight entrance into the secure car park after getting a key/pass from the hotel.

Took my disabled daughter to the George hotel. Although there are no lifts as it is a very old building the young staff went out there way to help make our stay as easy as possible. I look forward to using this hotel again and would highly recommend it.
