Great stay at this hotel and great value for money. The £30 per couple allowance for evening meals is more than enough after the grand "help yourself, full English breakfast." Sometimes the scrambled eggs were a little dry, but overall the food was just what would be expected. The quality of evening food varied with the chef on duty, but taking everything into consideration it was very good from an extremely varied menu. They seem to have trouble cooking steaks as two people sent theirs back as being incorrectly cooked. The staff were all extremely good and attentive, (perhaps Emily could smile a bit more!!) and they all knew their jobs very well. The room was comfortable, and although we were 'sold' the fact that the place was old and the floorboards creaked as being part of the charm, the noise became very annoying after only a few minutes. Everytime someone walked past our room, the floorboards creaked in our room and whenever one of us needed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night there was no way of doing so without waking the other. The room had cobwebs and a thin layer of dust on surfaces which had not readily been cleaned. The shower was good with good pressure and temperature, but the TV was virtually a waste of space. It was high on the wall, and had acceptable, - not necessarily good, - reception on only one or two main channels. The bed linen did not fit the bed, as the sheets were too small to tuck in, so mperhaps duvets would be a better way forward. Also, although no fault of the hotel itself, we were woken at 3.05 am by people coming back to the hotel after a night out, and being totally inconsiderate to fellow guests by shouting their goodbyes!
