I can summarise this to save you reading further: Nice clean and spacious rooms, free coffee & tea facilities, free posh toiletries, complementary water, free WiFi, flat screen TV, excellent full English breakfast and a free drink each for £22 per room per night!!! Also, nice meals on BOGOF. Comparatively good value at three times this price!
The four of us (two couples) booked this hotel as a sort of halfway-house stop-over on the way from Birmingham to St Ives. It was cheap (£22 per room per night) and judging by majority of the reviews we weren't expecting much. I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised! The rooms were clean, spacious and well appointed. Nice décor too. A warm, wooden feel to them but tastefully done and still very contemporary. Overall, I would say it was better than most low-medium budget hotels and lodges I have stayed in. Bathroom (well, shower room) was nice. Again, clean and spacious (although shower cubicle a little small) with complementary toiletries (Neutrogena no less). The bedroom had free coffee / tea making facilities, there were two bottles of complementary mineral water, free WiFi and it even had a flat screen TV!
No problems with the staff either, all friendly and helpful enough. We ate our evening meal there too and the meals we had were nice. Usual pub fayre of course, not Michelin starred but exactly as billed, decent quality and we all thoroughly enjoyed them. Even the meals were on offer. It was Buy One, Get One Free. Furthermore, the cherry on the cake was we all printed a voucher off before we went (readily available online) for a free drink (alcoholic or soft) when we got there! It was even a decent pint to boot!
If all of that wasn’t enough a full English breakfast was included in the price of the room. The breakfast too was lovely. Cereals, juices on tap etc and a full English, cooked to order to follow. I would even go as far as to say the ingredients were better than average. The bacon was delicious!
I realise that this all sounds too good to be true and if I’m trying to find something to complain about then I suppose it would be the fact that it was a bit quiet and subsequently there wasn’t much atmosphere. It was after all a Thursday night in winter. But this worked for us, as a nice peaceful night’s sleep was exactly what we were after.
I suppose the excellent experience we had could have been helped by the fact that it wasn't very busy. But to be fair, you have to take places as you find them and I can honestly say I found this place to be nothing short of a gem. If this had been cheap and crappy then we would have probably said you couldn’t argue with what we got for the price. But it wasn’t cheap and crappy. It wasn’t even average. It was better than average. None of us would hesitate to go back and frankly if my next experience is anything like this one then this could be one of the best hotel deals anywhere!
