“A real find for a break of journey to the West Country”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

An ideal stop just off the M5 for a treat dinner in the conservatory efficiently served from a varied menu followed by a stroll through the garden and along the bank of the rural Taunton to Bridgewater Canal, a comfortable night in a clean en suite room, a hearty full English breakfast under the supervision of the proprietor and his talking parrot, and a friendly farewell from longstanding local staff and all for £109.35 for two.

3 star i think this must be over rated by at least 2 stars, QUALITY not here but the canal was handy for chucking yourself in, the room was small mind you having the basin in there did nt help the toilet and shower need updating , as the wallpaper was falling off the ceiling, not a good place to stay if you dont like insects and spiders cause theres quite a few in here, was going to eat here to so i asked for a cheese ploughmans with chips but the barman informed me that this was only on the lunch time menu , so that saved me a few quid ,if your a thrill seeker this is the place for you if not stay elsewhere

Room Tip: swerve room 5 thats the best tip i can give you

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

I found the hotel in my AA Hotel Guide, and it had three stars, so I thought it would be pretty good.
Wrong!
On first appearances, it looked closed.
When I went to check in, the owner asked me to wait a while, as he was watching some news story on Sky News...
My room was tiny; the floor and bed were competing to see which could squeak the loudest. The bathroom was tiny.
The whole room felt dirty.
The menu was mediocre, but the quality of the food was poor, and it was overpriced.
The bar/ restaurant staff spent most of the evening cleaning the decor....

On the plus side - the beer (Butcombe) was very good!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

me and my partner went there for our 4th year anniversary and we wasnt dissapointed. upon arrival we were shown to our room which was clean and furnished quite well. the bathroom was bigger than i thought it would be too. we had a room which over looked the canal which was realy nice. our evening meal was very tasty. the dining and bar area was very quant and quiet which we both liked has we wanted a quiet night together. there was even an african pink tailed parrot in the corner of the dining area which made us laugh has he was funny. the breakfast the next morning was tasty with cereals and toast and cooked breakfast. the staff were very helpful and friendly and the location was lovely. we had a long walk along the canal on 2 different occasions which was realy nice has the rain stayed away. all in all a very enjoyable stay, we will return again. the only problem which isnt seriouse was there wasnt any coat hangers in the wardrobe, you probably would have to take your own.

Room Tip: the rooms at the front are the best has they are next to the canal and show a good view of the count...
