“Lovely!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We have stayed at Dolffanog Fach a number of times....and can admit to being a little apprehensive at meeting the third owners in almost as many years (particularly as the previous encumbents left no details of our booking!) Any fears were allayed immediately by the way Sara dealt with our booking, and then by the way we were greeted on our arrival by Carl. The improvements made to the rooms, especially with the lovely 'little' touches such as homemade cookies & fresh flowers in the rooms (err....we only ate the cookies, honest!) were wonderful. Then there was breakfast.....epic is the only way we can describe it! A menu of Herculean proportions; absolutely delicious with such a variety of choices. Evening meals; again, absolutely delicious and fantastic value.

Having stayed there many times before, and enjoying it each time, we were delighted that under Sara & Carl's ownership it is the best the B&B has ever been and we hope that they remain there for many years to come....as we will be back each year!

My partner and I stayed for a few nights in the summer. We wanted to stay somewhere remote and peaceful but still with a little luxury. That is exactly what we found at Dolffanog Fach. We were warmly welcomed on arrival by the owners who clearly took great pride in showing us our lovely room "Awdry". The little cakes and fresh milk on arrival added the perfect little touch. Dinner each night was surprisingly delicious and the Rioja was some of the best I've ever had! We fell in love with the landscape and felt very at home in the B & B. What makes it even better is they accept dogs so next year we will be back with our furry friend. I've racked my brain to think of a negative and the only thing I can come up with is that the bathroom is fairly small and its hard not to get water everywhere, but thats probably just me being clumsy. Oh, and I've just remembered, the breakfast is out of this world. The sweet bread thing that they bake is amazing!! We will be back next year without a doubt.

We had such a lovely time here - a warm welcome on arrival, lovely room overlooking the beautiful mountains and amazing food. Sara's brioche buns and huge breakfasts are the perfect start to a day of trekking up Cadair Idris, and the fantastic dinners are the perfect way to relax afterwards. Unfortunately I am a very lazy person, did no trekking up Cadair Idris, and subsequently pretty much doubled in weight during our four night stay. It was worth it though.

We were particularly impressed with how relaxing a stay it was even with our four year old daughter. She was made to feel very welcome, and the lovely gardens and DVD and games collection kept her entertained while we were at the guest house. We enjoyed days out on the steam trains, and Aberdovey among others, so lots to do in the area even if you're not able/inclined to get much mountain climbing done.

The whole place is full of little touches which made it a really special stay and I can't recommend it enough. Sara and Carl are doing a great job here! Worth noting as well that we got a better rate booking direct with them than we would have done going via one of the bookings sites, so worth checking.

Thanks so much for your lovely review. We are really glad you and your family had such a nice time here. I know it's not easy to relax with a four year old so I'm glad you felt you could do that here.
Hopefully we will see you again next year and thanks once again for taking the time to review us - it really is appreciated.
All the best

We had a short break to dolfannog fach along with our dog. Sarah and Carl could not be more hospitable and we thought this a perfect base for exploring the area. Welsh cakes on arrival, tasty dinners and breakfasts (delicious warm brioche) and pleasant garden to relax in means this was a great place to chill out. Lots of books and DVDs too which was an added bonus.

My sister and I stayed for 5 nights and it was the best holiday. The B&B was for starters in a beautiful location and we immediately took some photos. Then when inside we were pleasantly surprised with how lovely it was with everything you can think of to help with a comfortable stay. From the sumptuous duvets and pillows to all the little things here and there which Sara and Carl had obviously really thought about. Even an ordinance survey map in the draw to use whilst your there. We stayed in Awdry which was gorgeous, and always woke refreshed as was a lovely quiet comfortable room. And the shower was amazing. The water pressure felt like you was having a massage and felt amazing. And if you are a fan of great food then you will not be disappointed as it is even way beyond that, it's amazing food. From the surprising large choice of food for breakfast which all tasted lush, to the 3 course meal we had one evening which was devine. Sara truly is a fantastic cook and thus makes a stay at Dolffanog Fach a very special one. So to sum up I highly recommend this wonderful B&B and am sure you will not be disappointed. And with the way Carl and Sara go out of they're way to make your stay special I'm sure any future guests will be as truly happy as my sister and I were. And we really hope to go back again in the future.

I can't tell you how thrilled we were to read your review. We try so hard to add little extra's that make the difference between a nice stay and an amazing one so it's wonderful when people take the time to comment on them.
We really enjoyed having you and your sister to stay with us and look forward to seeing you again sometime.
Many thanks for the review.

My husband, 9 year old son and I stayed at this amazing B&B for one night on 29th October. Wish we had stayed longer.
The B&B is located in a cluster of 5 houses very close to Talyllyn. We called earlier in the day to advise our hosts regarding the time of our arrival. When we reached, there were some warm , freshly made Welsh cakes in our room. There was a DVD player with the TV and we could borrow DVDs from the family lounge - my son voted for Pirates of the Caribbean. A great collection of eclectic books are also available to choose from. Dictionary on Welsh was interesting. The bathroom was well stocked with good quality toiletries and soft, luxurious towels. There was an informative folder in the room about the area and the last page was a short introduction to our host family ... So sweet.
Carl recommended that we could eat dinner at the Railway Inn nearby and we were not disappointed though I suggest you book in advance. The curry seemed the most popular item and we ordered the same - very nice.
The breakfast next morning was the best ever. The usual cereal and yogurt were available. But it was great to see fresh fruit and a menu that offered Eggs Benedict and Florentine as well - that were to-die-for. Sara's cooking especially baking is great. The menu also included more interesting facts on Wales including the name of a Welsh town that is longest in the world.
In summary, a great experience ... Strongly recommend !

Room Tip: We stayed in Awdry room - recommend it. Do read the instructions from Carl regarding how to find thi...

Absolutely amazing location, our room was clean, comfortable and appreciated the little home comforts like home made cookies, fresh milk and even dog biscuits for our little girl. Breakfast was the best b&b breakfast menu I think I've ever seen, everything from a bacon butty to eggs royale!!

Unfortunately only there for one night so didn't have chance to sample the Swedish sauna but will definitely return there for a relaxing break, beautiful location, beautiful home, can't recommend highly enough :-D

Thank you so much for that review! Best ever B&B breakfast menu! Can't tell you how delighted we were to read that as it's exactly what we have been aiming for. Whenever Carl & I go away he will always have a full english but I love it when there are more interesting things to try so I really wanted to create a menu with something that would appeal to everyone. It's especially perfect for people who stay with us for a week or so, they can have something different every day!
We really do appreciate it when people take the time to write us a review - it's not only helpful, it makes us really happy as well! So thank you once again.

Sara & Carl would love to welcome you to Dolffanog Fach. Our aim is to provide the warm and friendly welcome of a traditional B&B with the standards and special touches you would expect from a boutique hotel. Unlike most B&Bs we do not "live in", we have a little cottage just next door so you don't need to feel as though you are staying in someone's home. We have 4 lovely double bedrooms, a sitting room with a log fire and a beautiful dining room with a slate floor and wood burning stove. Our dining room is big enough to accommodate individual tables for each guests but small enough to be cosy and allow you to chat to other guests if you wish. We have a large garden that you are welcome to explore with a garden railway which our children will be more than happy to demonstrate! We also have a Finnish Sauna which is just perfect after a long day's hike or cycle in our astonishingly beautiful surroundings. If you are a walker or mountain biker then we can offer you our "Boots & Bikes" Room. Secure storage for your bikes, boots, helmets and clothes and we can also offer laundry facilities. Our breakfasts are designed to really set you up for the day and also offer plenty of variety if you are staying for more than a few days. You could stay for a week and have a different breakfast every day! We really want to offer our guests value for money and put a lot of effort into the little things, the biscuits in the rooms are homemade and freshly baked, the milk is fresh and the coffee is ground and there are lots of other little touches that guests always comment on and say how much they make a difference. Children of any age are more than welcome and stay free if under 12 and sharing their parents room. We also welcome dogs and they are allowed in the rooms and sitting room, we don't permit them in the dining room but you are welcome to leave them in the bedrooms while you eat. We hope you'll come and stay with us, we can promise you a friendly welcome, lovely rooms, delicious food, glorious surroundings and a truly relaxing stay. ... more   less
