“Beautiful place - wonderful welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2010

We stayed for three nights and found Alex and Lorraine to be the warmest of hosts.

The quality of the rooms has to be seen to be believed. Our bedroom and bathroom was expansive, clean, luxurious and modern, and put many 4* hotels to shame.

The breakfasts were beautifully served , tasted fantastic, and the cooked food was served on plates that were sizzlingly hot - a critical fact in a breakfast that so many places overlook.

Alex has a fantastic collection of maps and guidebooks to borrow, and is a mine of useful information.

Our one comment was that all meals are eaten with all guests at one long dining table, and whilst this may appeal to some, it was not our choice. But that comment is minor!

Overall the establishment is simply superb and high quality and excceeds expectations. We would not hesitate in recommending it.

I have stayed at Dolffanog Fawer many times under varying circumstances and have found Alex and lorraine to be the perfect hosts .The Food is great, and I know that they source the ingredients for the meals locally where possible ,they will also go out of their way to cater for your Individual needs. The Tal-y-Llyn valley is out of this world and Cader Idris is one of the most spectacular Mountains in the Snowdonia National park. There is also a great variety of countryside activities available in the area fishing, walking ,Nature watching,Mountain biking etc ,or you could just go to the beach! Dolffanog Fawer is great you will love it and you will keep going back for more!

Dolffanog Fawr is beautifully positioned on the edge of Tal-y-Llyn lake and is ideally situated for walking, fishing, cycling or touring Snowdonia.

We first discovered this hidden gem via the Fishing in Wales leaflet distributed with a national fishing magazine some years ago, and it has not disappointed. Alex and Lorraine are the perfect hosts making guests feel immediately welcome and it’s not long before you feel part of the family with many visitors returning year on year - including ourselves.

There are four bedrooms (three overlooking the lake), all finished to a high standard, all en-suite, spotlessly clean and with everything you could possibly want at your fingertips.

The evening meal, prepared lovingly by Lorraine, using first class local produce is a definite must and Alex has an extensive wine list as well as local ales and ciders to suit all palates. Dinner and breakfast are communal affairs with everyone sitting around one large table, which encourages friendly banter between fellow guests.

For us the remote location is perfect, a real “get away from it all” and we would happily recommend anyone to stay there.

Dolffanog Fawr is quite simply the best place I've ever stayed at,anywhere. The accomodation is oustanding and the food simply out of this world. Don't mess about looking for somewhere to eat out ...you wont find food of this quality anywhere locally.Alex & Lorraine are just the most perfect hosts and the atmosphere is just so relaxed and friendly I defy anyone who goes there not to want to go back. Add an absolutely stunning location with Tal-y-Llyn lake two meadows away and Caedr Idris rising virtually out of the back garden and you have one of the true hidden gems of Snowdonia. I've stayed there many times and it just keeps getting better. The whole experience is so perfect that I never ever want to leave. Just got back from a long weekend at DF with friends...will be back in August but already I'm thinking that August is too far away. Its perfect.

Recently stayed at Alex and Lorraines B&B ( if you can call it that). It's a fabulous place to stay. They are both perfect hosts and you straight away feel part of the family. Set in a fantastic location by the lake it's a perfect spot to start out exploring Snowdonia. The rooms are of a good size and spotless with great views out of any window.
We had dinner both nights nights we were there and have to say they were wonderfully cooked and presented and great value. Alex keeps a varied wine and beer stock catering for all tastes.
Breakfast is cooked to order and where possible Lorraine uses local produce which we liked.
You cannot go wrong staying here and i would recommend anyone to stay there.

Seeking a three day break we discovered Dofffanog Fawr, via the Wolsey Lodges web site, which has never let us down in terms of quality or standards, we were not to be disappointed this time either, a super centralised location for getting around Snowdonia & the surrounding area either by walking or by car with plenty to see & do.

Your hosts Alex & Lorraine are amiable & full of ideas & helpful hints of the area, when asked about eating options outside the B&B they were honest & open & arranged dinner bookings for us.

Our room (number 4) was contemporary in style of a good size with a very comfortable king size bed a settee for relaxing an LCD TV, all complimented by a modern bathroom with a good sized shower, fluffy towels & all the extras expected of a five star B&B establishment, importantly it was spotlessly clean & had lovely lake & mountain views .

The slightly remote location is a real bonus, but it does mean choices for local eating out are slightly limited, but worry not as the promoted dinner inclusive option is one that "REALLY" should be taken up & enjoyed. Lorraine's culinery skills were first rate, offering fresh, wholesome & local food that was as much a delight to the nose & eye much as it was to the taste buds. An excellent & reasonably priced & wine list is available as are bottled local beers, after dinner it was nice to be able to retire to the lounge for coffee this is also available for relaxing during the day. Breakfast could be healthy or not, it was all very good, especially the English cooked version which we agreed was probably the best we had tasted for many years.

The acreditation Dolffanog Fawr has acheived is well deserved & only comes about by the continued attention to detail, dedication & hard work both Alex & Lorraine richly deserve it.

We went with every intention of utilising the Hot Tub, perhaps with a bottle of bubbles but failed to do so, perhaps next time.

This was the eighth visit to Dolffanog Fawr which has to say a lot. Alex and Lorraine are the perfect hosts. The rooms are very comfortable, tastefully decorated with good facilities. There is also an excellent sitting room and dining room which are both beautifully furnished.
The converted farmhouse is set in probably the most beautiful valley in Wales and the views from the house are superb overlooking both Tal y Llyn lake and the Cader Idris mountain range. It is perfectly situated whether you are walking, cycling, fishing, sightseeing or just plain relaxing.
The evening meal is lovingly prepared by Lorraine and is first class using local produce. Both this and breakfast which is also excellent, is served on a large oak table and this gives you a opportunity to chat and enthuse about your day with your fellow guests .
we love everything about Dolffanog. The only dissappoining part is when you have to leave.
